Sandy, in terms of the geographic area having been flooded, is a child’s play compared to this.

Car garages, apartments, streets and buildings that had no flooding during Sandy, have now 2 feet of water or more from end to end.

The Torah Scrolls are damaged. If they are beyond repair, they will be buried. That’s the respectful way of parting ways with Torah Scrolls. (Every Mon, Thur, Saturday and on holidays a portion of it is read out loud during prayers; on a schedule to be read in full once a year).
