I have worn the US military uniform for 24 years, deployed twice. I understand very intimately what freedom is, and what I sacrifice to protect it. I left my babies when they were still newborns to go to foreign lands. I've lived far from home, left my family to serve.
For all of you who refuse to wear a mask or get a #COVID19 vaccine, you are not PROTECTING freedom. You are EXERCISING it. Do not ever confuse the two.
Please note the difference between those two verbs. One implies sacrifice made in service to others. The other depends on the actions of others to give them the right to behave as one pleases, even if it puts someone else at risk.
Freedom and responsibility are two sides of the same coin. I will defend with my life your freedom, and also ask in my every breath that you recognize your responsibility to those around you to protect them.
If you want to defend something and save a life, put on a mask and get a vaccine. That is what service and sacrifice looks like. #GetVaccinated#WearAMask
"The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -John Stuart Mill
Here's a toast to all of the better men (and women) who have paid for your freedom in blood. #heresatoast
