10 Tips on How to Become a Freelance Programmer:

Let's go!

1) Think of yourself as a brand.

You have to have skills of course.

But if you are the best developer in the world and nobody knows you, you will not be hired.

Have a portfolio, use Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Image
2) Search potential clients on social media

Not many people are doing it, but you can just find companies and write them an email.

Or you can contact them through your Twitter.

If you send 100 emails, it's a big chance to get the client.
The main goal is to get that first client.

After the first client, you can post testimonials, and getting second and next clients will be easier.

3) Find starting crypto projects

You would be surprised how much money is in the crypto space right now.
I will use my example.

When I was a freelance developer I get the client.

They want me to do a crypto wallet app front end in #Flutter.

They paid such huge money for it.

That I was able to hire a developer and pay him and still do a big profit.
All that while I was doing something else for other clients.

Of course, I was working on that crypto wallet too, but I had another developer that was doing a lot of work.

Time = money.

4) Always provide high-quality results

This is a must.
Sometimes you just have to push yourself, even if it's hard in order to finish your work.

This I don't even want to discuss.

You got to have high-quality results.

Negotiate more time to do the project rather than giving them a low-quality product.
5) Manage time efficiently

Unlike regular jobs, freelancing is not usually a 9-5 job, you're your own boss.

I recommend making a schedule and stick to it.

Because you're your own boss you have to be disciplined. Image
6) Use freelancing websites

Do your research on what freelance websites are the best and find two or three platforms to get started.

This does not include blogging, tweeting, etc.

That you should be doing from the beginning like mentioned above.
7) When you are starting from absolute zero

I recommend working for free to get some social proof.

Social proof, testimonials.

Write an email to companies that you'll do something for free in exchange for their testimonial.
The goal here is to build a strong reputation.

Get in touch with starting companies that don't have big capital.

preferably ones not related to software–and offer to build them a website or write some utility software.
Since they’re not dealing in software, there’s a good chance they’ll welcome your services.

Check with local organizations and see if they are looking for any software development services that you can offer.

8) Testimonial are very important in freelancing
Recommendations play a major role in getting business.

After you complete every project ask the company for that testimonial.

It's 50% of freelance business.

9) Contribute articles/tutorials to other sites
You can see this on almost every tech blog or any kind of blog.

The article will have your name on the top of the article and on the bottom.

Soon this option will be available on Reso Coder too.

10) Attend meetups
Talking to someone in real life is very beneficial for a freelancer.

You can make future connections.

Exchange contacts, talk about ideas from other freelancers.

You never know maybe some company will contact you 6 months after the meetup.
Also, it's very good for social proof.

You can make a blog about the meetup with some photos.

Others can share you and more people will know about you.

I hope this helped you on your journey.
