Is President Trump assisting in the unlocking of hidden Nikola Tesla IP in science, tech and medicine?

I’m no scientist here, I’m just thinking out loud and pondering questions. I’m interested in finding out more, I do know that much. 🤓⚡️
Nikola Tesla was an inventor who obtained approx 300 patents worldwide. Some of Tesla's patents are not accounted for, many have lain hidden in patent archives...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_N…
Among his inventions, he designed the Tesla coil in 1891. It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity...🔮⚡️

Dove into the @EU_Commission leaked document on "Europe fit for the digital age".

It went something like 💎💻👏🏼🤷🏼‍♀️🇪🇺 🧩...🤦🏼‍♀️ Some Q&D thoughts below.

euractiv.com/wp-content/upl…? 1/11
🎶P L O N K S N A P 🎶

That is the sounds of yet another policy paper falling into the "Fourth Revolution Trap" by repeating the flawed idea that technological progress is somehow inevitable or that #tech development is linear rather than a deliberate social process. 2/11
..Like I don't know, the process happening in one o/t most important #European political Institutions: its Commission?

It's painful to see the Commission repeating this narrative.

Painful as in watching-Musk-say-his-bodged-cybertruck-demo-is-somehow-not-his-fault painful. 3/11

Everyone’s path into tech is different. What may work for one person may not work for the other.

I’m just sharing my personal journey (which is split into 4 phases).

If you have any questions, please mention me separately from the thread.

Enjoy!
Before I tell my story, I’d like to reintroduce myself.

My name is Amber Takahashi. I’m 22 with a passion in D&I, philanthropy, & technology.

I’ve been an entrepreneur since the age of 16 , and I have plans of retiring from corporate by the age of 30.

Is there a future in old tech? Of course there is - especially when it's still powering some of our most amazing inventions! That's why you should ALWAYS keep all that old computer stuff you learnt in college.

Speaking of which... how's your FORTRAN?
FORTRAN (in shouty caps) was released in 1957 as the world's first high-level programming language. It’s probably the longest lasting, with Fortran 2018 (no shouty caps) being its latest release. And it all started with a simple question: how do you simplify programming?
Programming early computers meant entering sequences of numerical codes, each representing a basic operation. It was time-consuming, prone to error and hard to spot mistakes. The codes needed also varied between computers.

Basically it was a slog...

A thread about how well #China is playing the international game to become the most prominent economy in this decade, by @swardley.
@swardley Some key points about #China's long-run #strategy:

- For the #CPC (Communist Party of China) the #market is only a tool to leverage the power of the Chinese people, culture, and state, and not the holy sacred truth, as most western liberals believe. See @swardley's explanation.
@swardley - #China, through its CPC, acts as the #world's #biggest #buyer of goods & services, and hence, is able to impose its conditions (read law, prices, access to intellectual property, etc) to all multinationals that want to access the Chinese market, no matter how big they are.

thinking out loud about #WWIll in the #nigerian #tech space.
It all started with the then big boys of #innovation
with #ridehailing services. #Uber came into Nigeria and we realized taxis were not enough. whether it was because it was a popular international service
or because it had a good PR for representing your class or status, truth is #uber really did solve a problem. instead of walking to parks or bus stops looking for a taxi, your ride comes to you.
You have the right to choose what ride comes to pick you up based on your pocket
let's not even talk about convenience, the good Air conditioning that these guys used to offer during rides (not certain anymore) or the fact that it gave people the ability to have multiple jobs/sources of income once you have a vehicle.

I’m not an avid reader by any stretch, but I did manage to set a new personal record in 2019 by reading/listening to 24 books (thanks ridiculous commute to Redmond!). Here’s my year (in reading) in review (Chronological order, not ranked). 🧵
Army of None by @paul_scharre was a truly fitting way to kick off the year: thinking about the reality, myths, future & implications of national security technology, esp. #AI. I captured many of my take-aways in a piece for @AiCommission call for papers. warontherocks.com/2019/09/doors-…
Hyperwar was a mix of #FICINT by @august_cole, AI futurism by @amirhusain_tx , strategic analysis by GEN Allen & Bob Work, & even part product manual. It seemed more hype than reality, but transformative technology always uses such visions to mobilize key stakeholders.

The Cyber Attack Lifecycle describes the actions taken by an attacker from initial identification and recon to mission complete. This helps us understand and combat bad actors, ransomware, and others.

Let’s break down the steps ! 🧵

#30DaysOfThreads #infosec #security #tech 1/9
Initial Reconnaissance 🔎 - 2/9

Intruder selects target, researches it, and attempts to identify vulnerabilities in the target network. Some things attackers use and look for:

Whois
Target IP Ranges
Web Properties, Domains & Subdomains
Open Cloud Buckets
Google dorking
Initial Compromise 📬 - 3/9

Attacker compromises a vulnerable host. This may be a DMZ host or something in a higher security group via email phish. This is the first step into a network and why security people always say:

Don't click email links!
Don't open email attachments!

One year ago, @fisheriesSOM signed MoU with China Overseas Fisheries Association and granted 31 fishing licenses to fish inside Somali EEZ. This is ⬇️ what happens when greed, bad negotiation, corruption, and neocolonialism all meet together. I am not surprised sadly. (thread) /1
2018 no fishing vs 2019 Chinese scouring in Somali waters chasing tuna into their feeding grounds @fisheriesSOM officials said they fish only 3 months of tuna season. Fishing 10 months in a year what fishing season is that? Renewed for 2020!! Here I am proving them wrong #tech /2
You know what's worse than their bad decision?

Finding out that warlords used to generate more revenue from fishing licenses. They knew better they were selling their resources.

Licensing commercial fishing will be forever a shameful chapter in the current administration. /3

This is interesting. On #customs and #tech. Turkish customs added X-Ray Vehicle and Container Scanning (with some AI) systems to analyse vehicles and containers without physical intervention – just a scan to see what’s/who's in them
/1

dailysabah.com/business/2019/…
But – still require physical infrastructure and for the vehicle to pass through customs gates (if anyone is thinking of a certain problematic border).
/2
Also, notice how these are implemented in a wider system – scanners, IT system, data processing and analysing centre. All this needs to be designed and planned before you can implement new tech

@LinkedIn @LinkedInToday The H-1B is profoundly broken. It doesn't need to be cut, but reformed.

A rebuttal to this piece (from firsthand experience managing a global team with H-1B's at a F100 US corporation.:

bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

(thread)
H-1Bs don't officially make workers indentured & underpaid; just unofficially. Workers can only switch to other companies that will pay to sponsor visas. Many don't. So:
- That reduced market
- Extra cost
- Transactional friction

Limit their options & pay.
Because many H1B workers arrive without families (or at least extended families), they tend to work longer hours, so companies get more bang for the buck.

How much buck?

5am thoughts: One of the challenges for men in #leadership positions in #tech who want to increase #inclusion and #diversity in our orgs, is that first we need to first recognize our own #privilege before knowing what conscious actions to take in our orgs & company-wide... 1/14

My post on LinkedIn about my interview experience in 1996 @amazon blew up. But a bunch of people asked me why I left after 3 yrs and boomeranged 14 years later. So I thought I’d tell the story here #AWS #amazon #techjobs

Everyone assumes that if you’re “successful” by some measure they seen you got there through a series of brilliant chess moves or you were an overnight #success. Occasionally that’s true, but far more often it looks like this
My first 3 years at amazon were amazing. We changed the world of #ecommerce, survived competitive threats that were supposed to kill us, invented lots of 😎 #tech that’s now commonplace in websites. But it was also exhausting. I worked 6-7 days a week, every week for 3 years 😓

IBM is accused of firing older workers. This is really about money - and doesn't just apply to IBM. Many companies sneakily create practices, communications & policies (like not subsidizing family health coverage)to discourage hiring older workers.

Age discrimination is especially common in #tech, where appearing "cool" carries a premium for recruiting top grads & younger talent.

In most careers, there comes an inflection point where junior employees can do the same job (or ~80% of it) for way less.

3/7
Sadly, to companies we're no more than "human resources," so employees must make themselves indispensable, esp. as their salaries creep up.

How?

1) Develop a unique expertise: be known for it. Could be anything from a coding language to ideas generation to great #design.
