3 POSITIVE ADDICTIONS THAT WILL GIVE YOUR LIFE MEANING

|| Thread ||
When you experience a sweet sensation, your brain releases a neurotransmitter called dopamine.

This chemical reinforces the behaviors & sensations that produced this feeling making you crave them again -

That’s how addictions start.
A dopamine reward is therefore the thread that connects you to any addiction.

I’ve categorized four grades of dopamine, from their sources...
Low grade dopamine:

This is what you get from drugs, casual sex, porn / gambling.

They cause some physical, mental, or spiritual damage everytime you indulge.

They basically kill you slowly while making you believe you’re “having fun”.
Mid grade dopamine:

These activities give you excitement in an unfair exchange for your time & energy.

They may provide doses of happiness, but poor ROI

(Sports & entertainment).
High grade dopamine:

This is the fulfillment you get from doing what you love & leveling up everyday.

Expanding the limits of your body & mind is highly rewarding -

That’s how nature designed Us to be happy.
The best grade dopamine comes from gradually increasing your value & net-worth.

More money means more confidence, better connections & opportunities, and a greater sense of freedom.

Life becomes 10x sweeter when you don’t have to worry about money.
Whilst everyone has an addiction, the vast majority seek the lowest levels

To become an actualized human, you must reorient your dopamine receptors to crave what’s good for you.

Here are 3 positive addictions you should imbibe;
1 - Mastery in your craft / profession

Passion is the magnetic force that pulls you towards mastery, without it you’ll be doomed to a life of mediocrity.
Forget about talent, focus on becoming competent -

Competence will compound to mastery over time, and mastery is the peak of talent.

You don’t have to be the best in the world, but the best you can be.
So find a calling, skill, or mission to dedicate your life to. When mastery becomes an obsession, it overrides lesser addictions.
2 - Truth seeking

For an earnest seeker, there’s no end to self-knowledge.

Critical thinking demands a complete restructuring of your worldview from the foundation.

It’s an arduous process that demands high levels of skepticism & exploration.
You can seek truth through any of these paths;

Scholarly: Study several schools of philosophy / theology - stack axioms & heuristics of wise men

Scientific: Observe, hypothesize, experiment & infer laws /maxims

Saintly: The path of self-inquiry / metacognition & meditation.
Observation is the mother of science -

Life is so intricate that it’s impossible for any man, in one lifetime, to explore it in it’s entirety.

So a thirst for truth distracts you from your distractions & blesses you with a natural discipline and orderliness.
3 - Body & mind mastery

Signs of a great body; strength, endurance, flexibility, energetic, aesthetics.

Signs of a great mind; calm, resilient, adaptable, innocent, optimistic.

You should check atleast 3 markers in both categories

All it takes is commitment.

Low grade addictions destroy you

High grade addictions transform you

The more invested you are in exploring these 3, the weaker your affinity to the lower levels.

3 WAYS TO HONE YOUR PRESENCE

|| Thread ||
Your presence describes the state of your mind (tranquil or agitated), and is proportional to the depth of your awareness.

You can become more grounded & centered by;
1 - Slowing down

Your thoughts, movements & breathing are intertwined, and directly influence each other.

When you become anxious - your breathing becomes heavy, and your movements erratic.

When your breath slows down - your mind becomes calm, and your movements composed.

You can’t rush greatness...
The impatient will suffer just as much as the lazy!

You aren’t lazy - just paralyzed by too many desires.

Your mind wants 1000 things at a time, keeping you in a perpetual cycle of discontentment & unhappiness.
Every desire you pick up weakens your willpower -

They distract & divert your thought energy into irrelevant things.
Your mind becomes organized only when you entertain fewer desires -

Fewer desires creates better focus, better focus creates quicker outcomes...

Compound interest is always in effect -

Doubt compounds to fear; optimism to confidence

Action = progress; procrastination = anxiety

Passion = high energy; laziness = lethargy

You’re either accumulating positive or negative momentum.
There’s no change w/o choice, no choice w/o understanding, no understanding w/o awareness.

1 - Awareness: Notice negative patterns (triggers, timing, thought process...)

2 - Understanding: Unravel the basic desire, attachment or escape behind the habit.
3 - Choice: There are no how-tos. If you’re in a burning room you won’t ask how to get out - you just flee. A half-hearted resolve won’t cut it

4 - Change: Real change starts on the inside. Every little win builds up your mental resistance - chase progress not perfection...
