3 WAYS TO HONE YOUR PRESENCE

Your presence describes the state of your mind (tranquil or agitated), and is proportional to the depth of your awareness.

You can become more grounded & centered by;
1 - Slowing down

Your thoughts, movements & breathing are intertwined, and directly influence each other.

When you become anxious - your breathing becomes heavy, and your movements erratic.

When your breath slows down - your mind becomes calm, and your movements composed.
You can test this by suddenly holding you breath in the middle of an action for a few seconds -

You’ll find it hard to think.

The same happens when you try to catch your breath during intense exercise.
You can’t control your thoughts, or forcefully slow down your breaths

Your movement is the one you have the most control over.
A simple way to move more consciously is to slow down everything - your reactions, walking pace, gaze shift, talking & eating speed

Slower movements = deeper awareness = less intrusive thoughts...
2 - Maintaining Balance

A lack of restraint is the path to destruction

Even good things become detrimental when taken to the extreme.
When you are conscious of maintaining balance in all you do, you naturally become more observant.

It’s like walking a tight rope -

You have to catch yourself drifting to one extreme and immediately recenter yourself.
Be moderate in all you do;

Don’t eat too much
Don’t talk too much
Don’t get too excited / sad
Don’t get too angry that you lose yourself

It takes dedicated practice to get the hang of it.
3 - Noting your surrounding

Wherever you are, you can establish your presence by noting:

> 5 things you see
> 4 things you can touch
> 3 sounds you hear
> 2 scents you smell
> 1 taste in your mouth
