Advice to men in their 20’s from a 55-year-old who’s been around'.

<thread>
Invest in yourself.

Get jacked. You don’t have to pay for a gym membership, YouTube is enough.

Read these 3 books:

• Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl.
• How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
• Atomic Habits by @JamesClear
Sell your gaming system.

They’re dream killers.

Invest money from the sale into an IRA.

Buy more books.
Learn some basic finance.

Have a small emergency fund but then start investing.

You can start investing with as little as $10 a month!

Stay the fu*k out of debt.
You only need a few good friends who will run through fire for you.

Having an entourage is stupid.

Surround yourself with great people.
If you want to sell drugs, surround yourself with drug dealers.

If you want to be a millionaire, surround yourself with millionaires.

If you want to be generous...

You get the idea.
Stop buying things.

Spend your money on experiences instead.

(Notice my bio doesn’t talk about my truck or my watch...100% experiences)
Travel to 3rd world countries.

Go behind the curtain. What you see will 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 you.

Resorts and cruises are for old people.
Be insanely picky about who you surround yourself with.

That includes family, friends and people you meet online.

Toxic blood is not thicker than water.
Be the most generous person you know.

You're privileged. Act like it.

Always do the right thing.

Be humble.
That advice comes from a lot of failure.

You'll fail too. And that's good.

My last piece of advice probably won't make a lot of sense to you,

So trust me on this.
Fail.

Learn from your mistakes.
Then fail again.
Fail big.

Then get back up.
I'm rooting for you man.

Almost no one is looking out for you.

Follow my advice and you'll be ok.

I'm 55 years old and I have ONE regret in life.

If I could have ONE do-over, I know exactly what it would be.

I grew up in the mountains of Vail, Colorado. My high school not only had a football team, we had ski team!

At the end of the season of my senior year, I missed going to State in cross-country skiing, by just a few points.
My biggest regret, my ONLY regret, is NOT that I didn’t make it to State,

It’s that I didn’t even try, and that's why I didn't qualify.

1. Stop playing it safe.

Live a life that will make your grandkids say, "My grampa was a bad ass!"

• he jumped out of an airplane
• he ran a marathon
• he rolled a cuban cigar...in Havana

Whatever it is, wherever you are, LIVE a life worth remembering.

Todd: Hello… Operator…listen to me…I can’t speak very loud. – This is an emergency. I’m a passenger on a United flight to San Francisco.. We have a situation here….Our plane has been hijacked…..can you understand me? Image
Lisa: (exhaling a deep breath to herself) I understand… Can the hijackers see you talking on the phone?
Todd: No
Lisa: Can you tell me how many hijackers are on the plane?
Todd: There are three that we know of.
Lisa: Can you see any weapons? What kind of weapons do they have?
Todd: Yes…. they don’t have guns….they have knives – they took over the plane with knives.
Lisa: Do you mean…like steak knives?
Todd: No, these are razor knives…like box cutters.
Lisa: Can you tell what country these people are from?

I started preparing a document for my wife titled,

“Babe, If I die unexpectedly”

I know. Weird.

It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years but haven’t had the time.

I’m not a big fan of flying.

I have to force myself to think about something else because if I think about the giant metal tube I’m in, moving through the air at 575 miles per hour, I freak out.

According to a friend of mine who’s a pilot, “I have control issues.”
And so, every time I fly without my wife, I think about writing this document.

My initial thought was to tell her where all the passwords are, give her a list of important phone numbers, like our accountants (in both countries), doctors, partners, etc.

“Don’t settle when looking for a wife.”

The Most Important Life Advice I Ever Gave My Adult Sons

// A THREAD //
First of all, don’t settle. You’ll fight yourself on this but I’m telling you, if you get this one right, you’ll be ok.

BE PATIENT. What’s the damn hurry? You work on you. She’s already out there, you’ll find her.

Maybe you’re not ready.
Know who you’re looking for. You should probably have a list of attributes you like in a girl.

Be honest with yourself.
Don’t share this list with anyone, they’ll judge you. This is YOUR list.

7 ways to raise well rounded, healthy kids that you've never thought about.

I moved from the U.S. to Guatemala 9 years ago.

It’s easy to see how toxic it is for parents to fill their kids lives with endless sports & activities.

A petri dish of anxiety.

Teach them not to be afraid of failure.

Ask them every day, “What did you fail at today?”

If they failed, they’re growing.

Reframe failure.

“Imagine if schools viewed mistakes the way programmers do: Not as signs of failure, but as “bugs” that can be fixed.” @anafabrega11
Help them to fall in love with reading.

• They have a significantly higher chance of loving to read, if you read.
• 1 hour of reading for 30 min. of tv or video games.

“Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body.” – Richard Steele
