It's #StarTrekDay and while my critical brain puts the crown on DS9 for its willingness to move away from the formula a bit, and it's way ahead of its time look into social issues, I have a very warm place in my heart for the original mostly because of Spock..
Spock should be very high on anyone's best characters on TV list . His backstory, his evolution, his idiosyncrasies, his Sass, and his being an endless quotable machine. Spock adventures on the show were always the best to me and his insights are actually insightful ...
Besides that for my money Nimoy was the best actor on the show owing to the difficulty of playing a character like Spock...want example look at my favorite episode of Star Trek which is my favorite Spock episode "AMOK TIME" ..
The episode is great for several reasons it depicts the extent and nature of Kirk's devotion to Spock, it shows the complexity of Vulcan culture, and it makes a convincing argument against a heirarchal approach to mating...
Spock starts acting crazy because it's making season which is very relatable lol After a couple very unlike him incidents, McCoy takes him to sick bay and discovers he must mate or die, Kirk tries to to get permission from the feds but they're like "too bad, go cry about it"..
So Kirk being Kirk and loving his friend the way he does is like..
He goes anyway and Im sure immediately regrets that shit when he gets caught in Spocks relationship drama and then has to fight Spock. Now alot of shows loved to imply superiority of every kind in hierarchical relationships. Take Miami Vice w/ Sonny always looking suprior to Rico
Now one thing I loves about Star Trek was that they went out of their way to remind you Spock would whip Kirk's ass anytime anyday period....
I think that's a helluva bond between men when there is a physical superiority that is rarely brought up and they love each other so much they barely think of it, because or of Male supposed friendships where that exist are built off of latent fear & expectations...anywho
Spock being Mr Duty bound puts his foot in Kirk's ass and he thinks he's killed Kirk he goes to T'pring immediately having found out she's behind it all...
This is my favorite part. Because T'pring his intended could look like a villain but she's not snd she lays her game down quite flat and Spock like any sensible audience member is like "Damn you do make alot of sense...lol
Then comes my favorite quote
"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true." Even as u recognize there are so many times in my life where my body has forgotten this simple truth...
And when you really break it down its not aggressively righteous. He doesn't say you WILL He says you "MAY" because Spock is not a hater and he knows this may very be a good communion, BUT he's speaking to all they did to get it.
The ep is an example of skilled writing in plot, in design, in dialogue. T'rpings like about not wanting to be the Consort of legend"....wheww. I think it does everything you want one episode of television to do and it's a prime example of what made that show great...FRIENDSHIP.
I'm sorry also "I see no logic in preferring Stonn over me" is one of the coldest lines ever. Spock looked over at Stonn and said ain't no way , ain't no fucking way" lol

Can I holla at yall about the fight scenes in Atomic Blonde ???
Like Keanu has the fluidity, Koji has swag, You know what Theron had...the rage. Every single hit even while missing some of that smooth fluidity is filled with personal rage that informs the character and gives the fight personality...
In a piece I wrote about Tom Cruise I talked about natural ability to show Taking hits just as well as he gives, it's an important aspect that I noticed a lot of action folk whom I actually love aren't very good at...
The best these new post George iterations had to offer. Despite the story being referential to the past, it felt refreshing still. . The acting was the best, by far, the action was top flight, and when it bowed to the old it mostly got it right by just having a good time
One thing I've been working on and frankly failing at is trying not to understand why ( therapy already helped with that ) but how to stop obsessing over people I like seeming not to really fuck with me...
This is the spot where losing my therapist ( she had a familail situation and I could no longer afford it- came at exactly the wrong time ...
Because she was already talking about the difference between understanding something and internalizing it, and then boom gone...
I feel like I can always tell even from a trailer when a movie looks like it was actually well thought out and from a desire to continue the strory or just pushed out because they are aware of its legacy and big $ is on the table. Whether it's good or not I can tell it's organic
Since the first Matrix Lana and Lilly always impressed me with their inclusiveness in a world where science fiction in general has NOT...Hell even with BR 2049 poc were so restricted to the background it was hellacious to me
