1) Mahindra Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai with operations in over 100 countries.
2) As one of India's leading industrial houses in the utility vehicles and tractor markets, it is one of the country's most reputable companies.
3) It was incorporated as Muhammad & Mahindra in 1945 by the brothers J. C. & K. C. Mahindra, and Malik Muhammad in Ludhiana to trade steel.
4) After India’s Partition in 1947, Malik Ghulam Muhammad left the company and emigrated to Pakistan where he became the first finance minister of the new state (and later the third Governor-General in 1951).
5)The group has a presence in aerospace, agribusiness, aftermarket, automotive, components, construction, defense, energy, farm equipment, finance, industrial equipment, IT, leisure and hospitality, logistics, real estate, retail, education, and two-wheelers.
6)By leveraging their knowledge of the steel industry, the Mahindra brothers began trading steel with UK suppliers.
7) They won a contract to manufacture Willy’s Jeeps in India and began producing them in 1947.
8)In 1948, K. C. Mahindra changed the company's name to M&M.
9)Since 1956, the company has been listed on the BSE.
10) Since 1969, it has been exporting utility vehicles and spare parts.
11)During the early 1980s, Mahindra & Mahindra developed tractors, and in 1986 it created a tech division (Now Tech Mahindra). Despite increasing its diversification efforts, the company has also made greenfield purchases.
12)A fundamental reorganization of the Group took place in 1994 after the Group became so diverse that it was divided into 6 Strategic Business Units:
Automotive; Farm Equipment; Infrastructure; Trade and Financial Services; IT; and Automotive Components.
13)The Managing Director, Anand Mahindra, followed this reorganization with a new logo in 2000 and a new vehicle, the Mahindra Scorpio (a wholly indigenously designed vehicle).
14) Along with an overhaul in production and manufacturing methods, these changes helped make them more competitive, and the reputation of the Group has skyrocketed since.
15)Mahindra was ranked among the top 200 most reputable companies in the world by Forbes in 2009.
16)Mahindra Group launched Mahindra Rise in January 2011 to unify its image across industries and geographies. The brand positions Mahindra products and services as aspirational, supporting customers' ambitions to 'Rise.'
17)In April 2012, the Mahindra Group expressed interest in purchasing the bankrupt automobile company Saab, and placed several bids for Saab, though was outbid by Saab's new owner National Electric Vehicle Sweden.
18)Mahindra engages in philanthropy primarily through the KC Mahindra Trust, which serves as the CSR arm of the group (although many subsidiaries have their own CSR initiatives, notably Tech Mahindra and Mahindra Satyam).
19)The trust was founded in 1953 by K.C Mahindra with the specific purpose of promoting literacy in India and raising educational standards through grants and scholarships.
20)Mahindra operates several vocational schools as well as the Mahindra United World College.
21)In 2011, it held the first annual Mahindra Blues Festival with guests including Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, and Shemekia Copeland at the Mehboob Studios in Mumbai.
22)The primary project of the KC Mahindra Trust is Project Nanhi Kali, which aims to educate young Indian girls.
23)Currently, the foundation supports the education of about 153,190 underprivileged girls.
24)Other initiatives include Mahindra Hariyali (a 1 million tree planting campaign) as well as sponsorship of the Lifeline Express, a mobile hospital train.

30)In 2017, The Mahindra Group has formally announced the launch of its Carworkz platform, a multi-brand car service aggregation platform.
31) The aim of the service is to deliver added convenience, choice and to offer better transparency in a space that is largely unorganized.
32)CSR is a key part of its corporate culture, and it received the Pegasus Award in 2007.
33) Anand Mahindra offered to help a Gujarat-based physically challenged person Vishnu Patel for his electric bike manufacturing venture using scrap materials for the specially-abled.
