Justices DY Chandrachud & BV Nagarathna asks the State of Maharashtra to come back with a plan on how to spend a sum of Rs 25 crores for the welfare of the 593 children who lost both their parents to COVID-19 pandemic #supremecourt#covid19@OfficeofUT
Justice Chandrachud: It has been informed that 593 children have lost both parents to covid and 19,000 children have lost one parent. Under the State policy , a sum of 5 lakhs will be placed in Fixed deposit per child who lost both the parents and will be paid when they attain 18
Justice Chandrachud: an amount of Rs 20 crore which was directed to be paid in 2016 has now become 25 crores with interest. Mr Sachin Patil has made an objective suggestion in which Rs 25.53 cr can be provided to these children who lost both parents
Justice Chandrachud: the details of 593 children is uploaded on the portal of NCPCR called the Bal swaraj yojna. The estimated figure is subjected to further verification.
Justice Chandrachud: It has been suggested that this amount can be used for the children who lost both parents or either of them. Before we disburse the money back to state, a complete plan will be submitted to court on how money will be utilised for such affected children
Justice Chandrachud: The Department of Child and Welfare of Maharashtra state will file a reply after three weeks.
We will refund this money but let them genuinely utilise this. 5 lac per child for 593 is different.. treat this 25 crore as a separate fund.
