(1/9) QUESTIONS FOR GOVERNMENT - PERSONAL/GOVERNMENT RESPONSIBILITY...
In the continuing absence of regular Government press conferences where the media is enabled to keep Government accountable, we would like to pose these questions publicly...
(2/9)
@BermudaPremier, you have indicated that Government will resist tightening restrictions to suppress the current coronavirus outbreak, and instead promoted a theme of personal responsibility - putting the onus on the community to suppress this outbreak.
We therefore ask:
(3/9)
1. There have been several reports of calls to the COVID 'hotline' being on hold for 1-2 hours. Is it the public's responsibility to man and maintain an efficient COVID hotline so the community can seek advice and arrange testing if necessary?
(4/9)
2. There have been several reports of people being having to wait several days, even a week, to get a coronavirus test at one of the Government testing sites. Is it the public's responsibility to provide an efficient coronavirus testing regimen?
(5/9)
3. By design, the implementation of Safekey increases the number of people seeking coronavirus tests, as does an increase in travelers. Now that we are seeing rising infections, processing of tests is further delayed because the necessary retesting...
(6/9)
...of positive test pools creates a backlog. Is it the public's responsibility to provide the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory with the necessary manpower and resources to operate efficiently when testing volume and positivity rates are high?
(7/9)
4. As of this morning, the coronavirus numbers in the public domain are only up-to-date with test results from a week ago. Is it the public's responsibility to deduce for itself what the current, up-to-date coronavirus statistics are?
(8/9)
5. If the answers to the above questions are no, and the responsibility in fact lies with Government, then we ask this final question: How can Government expect the public to take "personal responsibility" for suppressing the current outbreak when...
(9/9)
...the public is under-resourced and under-informed because Government is not meeting its responsibility to provide an efficient advice hotline, an efficient testing service, or regular and current updates on Bermuda's pandemic status?
