5:30 AM - I predict an election will be held today.

Good luck, stay safe, #voteliberal.
About to leave the house and I just realized that more about how I see the world has changed in the last 30 days than during any other similar time period in my life. Mostly, I no longer have any fond affinity towards the NDP. They’re not the way to a better future.
Familiarity breeds contempt very quickly in our world of social media and 24-7 comms. Captured, corporate, editorially biased media illustrated this contempt by unnaturally decoupling Trudeau’s failings from his many important successes.
In our brave new world, small missteps are more important than lifting people out of poverty or advancing women’s issues, complex programs like water advisories are reported as failures instead of the 98% successes they are. And yes, close counts in the real world.
Instead of moving us towards better, Jagmeet Singh selected every negative, destructive, unsavoury, non-progressive tactic from the playbook of the conservatives while his supporters cheered him on and made excuses for the behaviour under the “trying to win” tab.

My riding (Kings-Hants, NS) has more nationalist anti-everythingers than Greens. What a time to be alive. #Elxn44
Some day I’ll have to tell the story of visiting Brison’s office (when it was his riding) just a few weeks after the 2016 American election and a guy sat next to me in a MAGA hat and … we had words. 😡
Was just called. Liberal win. You’re welcome 🤣

OMG. My last pick up was an older woman, perfectly coiffed blue hair, pale coral lipstick, a beautiful St. John knit skirt suit. As she was closing the door her neighbour came running out asking if they could tag a ride. Her sigh was audible. The window went down a sliver.
“Are you vaccinated?” she asked from other side of the back seat.

The person said “That’s none of your business, (name).”

“Then no,” she said and the window closed tightly.
“Drive,” she said to me with a little wave of her hand as she put on a pair of sunglasses Jackie O would have envied.

“Yes, ma’am,” I said with a chuckle and she nodded like that was the answer she was expecting.

Just dropped the next set of voters off. An elderly couple. He was “old fool” and she was “woman”, apparently. They talked about the weather and the price of potatoes and asked me twice if I was related to so and so (I’m not).
She wanted to leave her purse in the car while they voted he was trying to tell her no without offending me. It was cute.

Sometime in 1955 or so my grandmother chased my grandfather around the kitchen table with a broom because he’d spent his paycheque on booze and she had 11 kids to feed. Thereafter she attended his place of employment on pay days and collected his pay “for him”.
Sometime around 1975 my mother and father had the only fight I ever heard them have because she wanted to take a job as she wanted a new washing machine. On her first day of work, a Saturday, she left him a note on the kitchen counter, which is how he found out she had a job.
Sometime in the mid eighties my husband and I decided someone should stay home with the kids. It took me a month to convince him it should be him. That was not the outcome he expected when he made the suggestion but he did a grand job, rest his soul.

If I found out days before an election that Trudeau had conspired with a Premier to not implement life saving measures in order to secure votes for himself I would NOT vote Liberal. If I couldn’t vote for anyone else, I’d stay home.
It’s us, the voters, who get to decide whether this is okay or not. We’re in the driver’s seat here.

I’d also be all over Twitter telling all of you not to vote for him either, tbh.

You need a horse and a rider to win a race. NDPers need to understand this: the LPC is the horse. It is more important to YOUR agenda that you make sure there’s a horse for your guy to ride.

That’s #WhyLiberal

You have two separate and distinct powers in a democracy. One is your vote and the other is your party support. One (vote) needs to be wielded judiciously and strategically. The other (party support) needs to be unwavering and constant. We conflate these things. We shouldn’t.
Ultimately the question in the ballot box is “which vote will get my party closer to achieving its goals” and it might surprise you how often the answer is not “a vote for my party”.
