In my role @CLF, I often have to think about what our future looks like in Massachusetts. As the #ClimateCrisis looms over us, with impacts like increasingly frequent extreme weather, we know we have to do something – and do something now. (1/9)
And we know what we need to do. It’s time for us to leave behind the polluting fossil fuels at the root of #ClimateChange & transition to #CleanEnergy. #DirtyGas is one of those fuels responsible for the #ClimateCrisis. (2/9)
#BigGas like to tell us that they’re on our side: that they care about affordable bills, reliable service, and our safety. But the truth is, they’re out for profit first and foremost. (3/9)
The Atty Gen. last year asked the state to plan for the future of gas, for what will happen when people with $$$ electrify and leave a small number of people paying the bill for the gas system. This is our opportunity to take our future back from the greedy hands of #BigGas.(4/9)
Problem: the Dept of Public Utilities (DPU) handed this planning over to the gas companies to determine what they think gas needs will be in the future. Which, of course, allows #BigGas to claim that we need to grow the gas system while they pretend it’s a climate solution. (5/9)
CLF and our partners recently attempted to notify the DPU about our concerns with the process the gas companies are running, in response to a status report the companies got to put on the record. (6/9)
After some silence, this morning the DPU rejected our comments, saying that they were unsolicited. This means that when the DPU looks back to see if the gas companies did their planning process properly, the only voice they’ll be considering is that of the gas companies. (8/9)
It’s time to stop letting #BigGas guide us into a future of worsening climate impacts. It’s time for us to take back our future, protect our communities, and safeguard the world around us. (/end)
