taehyung: right so to talk about the UN..
joon: what happened was..
jungkook: the live wasn't working, so we're recording this video
joon: alright so this is a pre-recorded broadcast.. anyway so we got to the US at 9. got hair & makeup done at the hotel & went straight to the UN

jimin: that is, 12 in the evening (midnight)
joon: that's right..
jin: well i guess we should say we recorded our performance first!
jungkook: the pre-recording
joon: filmed the scenes that we could film inside, the parts just before we open the doors to go outside!

jin: so right up until the 2nd verse
joon: and we did that till about 3:30am?
jungkook: that's right thats right
hobi: we did do a lot of takes of those scenes
jin: there were some takes that were performance-wise better, but sometimes the director's foot was showing, etc etc etc

hobi: if we really wanted to, we could've finished filming a lot earlier i think
joon: but the way we are/our personalities.. we were kind of like.. well, we came all this way so might as well [perfect it/do our best]

joon: we were actually supposed to weave through the state leaders and do everything live, but i think that would have been a disaster/bad idea.. i mean, the clearing was so narrow, if there was someone sitting right in the path, we probably wouldn't have been able to move/dance-

yoongi: it was not really a place suited for live [music] performances
joon: there was too much chance for something to go wrong
yoongi: and not to mention there were a lot of restrictions/rules set for the hall
taehyung: ah like drinking water! it wasn't permitted there

joon: so we get back around 3:30am, then got up.. around 6:30am??
hobi: right right
joon: so we slept 2-3 hours, got hair&makeup done, then got there to film the rest of the performance
taehyung: the outside filming part!
joon: was it 1? 2?
hobi: 2pm ish
yoongi: 1:30?

joon: so to sum it up, filming that UN performance took about 14-15 hours in total..
yoongi: i mean the time difference.. after ending around 3:30am, i got back, washed up, then stayed awake for around 2 hours before we had to leave again

jungkook: we also had that meeting in the evening.. about the speeches/the address
taehyung: wait but jungkook and i didn't sleep! right?
jungkook: well i didn't drift off to sleep but.. i thought i was going to die i was so sleepy!
joon: ah preparing/practicing for the speeches!

yoongi: i was barely keeping my eyes open
joon: right i had just gotten up from sleeping too!
jungkook: we did the reading.. 5? 6? times
jin: when we'd timed it, it must've been about 6min 30 seconds.. but we really practiced that 6.5min over 1h30min..
joon: 7-8 times

jk: it was no joke
jin: editing, and so on
jk: and thennnn after all of that jimin-hyung said "i am sorry~" the next day
joon: right so we got up at 6am
jimin: wait no no it was 4! also, guys, i ended up saying "sorry~" but i even woke up at 3 to practice for an hour!

jimin: it was because we practiced so much that i was able to continue speaking after the pause! if i hadn't..
joon: right you were able to continue/recover!

jimin: the thing is, i didn't want to read off of a script. we were.. speaking for the youth, sharing the stories our armys told us themselves
joon: right so you wanted to squarely look the camera and deliver the message
jimin: alright so i said "let's take a look at the photos"

jimin: i was trying to say, "look at them, they're interacting in online spaces, making friends, they're doing great!" but i got so nervous on the last line.. "there are so many young people working to live healthier lives" it wasn't even that hard! but+

jimin: +when i briefly glanced down to take a look at the page for the line, i got so taken off guard because it was flipped to the second page! i turned to the next, then the next, and sighed to myself [because i couldn't believe this was happening].. and said "i'm sorry~"

jimin: and in that moment, everything i'd rehearsed suddenly came back to me in one second! and i said.. "to live healthier.." and i could feel the cold sweat on the back of my neck! those 3-4 seconds really felt like 20 years..

(jin & taehyung start at the same time, but taehyung tells jin "hyung, you should speak first")

seokjin: when we had our meeting, namjoon had said, let's just read off the paper because it's prob better than forgetting what we're supposed to say.. it's not a bad thing to read..!

seokjin: i ironically got flashbacks to that moment right when he cleared his throat & excused himself
taehyung: right so you were on the right side, but i was on the left with.. was it suga and jin hyung? anyways these two people quietly smiled and-
yoongi: we made eye contact

jin: i think i made an inaudible noise
yoongi: my eyes were darting around but i realized you were looking at me
jungkook: i tried my best to pretend like nothing had happened at all
joon: right i brushed it off mm it's okay we're good

jimin: i'm sure it was partly nerves from being on such an important stage, but also.. it's even been 2 years since we've met our fans.. so talking in front of actual people after such a while, seeing people in person.. it's difficult
joon: i completely agree

seokjin: plus the people sitting in front of us were literally all presidents and leaders from various countries..
jimin: right right!!
joon: presidents, secretary general, chairpersons, etc.
jimin: when my mind went blank i actually made eye contact with the secretary general

jin: that's so understandable.. and the atmosphere at the hall was.. really..natural? i mean pretty casual. they were recording us on their phones (during our speech)
jungkook: i was actually less nervous than i thought i would be
taehyung: they made it really comfortable for us!

jimin: i'm not sure you could see this, but my legs were shaking a lot.. i was talking like this, but my right leg wouldn't stop shaking..
hobi: i'm kind of curious if jimin's "i'm sorry" was translated into english during the live translation? since everyone had the in-ears on

hobi: i think it would have been kinda funny if they just heard "..sorry?"
joon: i'm really curious now!
jungkook: sorry? sorry~?
(to staff) oh it was translated? they say it was!
joon: woah~ the translators are really amazing, they even caught that detail!
jin: that's right!

jimin: anyways, everyone, i'm so sorry, and-
jungkook: no, no
joon: it's just a fun story!
jimin: well, they gave us this opportunity to speak.. i feel like i could've done a bit better
(the members assure him that the recovery was more impressive & showed how much he'd prepared)

joon: look at it this way -- you must have prepared the most/hardest out of us!
jimin: it was such a short phrase and i just-
joon: i know exactly how you feel!
hobi: hey, things of the past are in the past for a reason!
(the members laugh & break into song with "don't worry")

jimin: honestly, while giving my part of the speech, i kept thinking, namjoon-hyung is really amazing
(joon recalls when his hands were shaking for the 2018 un address, then jimin gives him a fistbump)
hobi: during this round of interviews, i was thinking, wow namjoon...

jin: during the interviews today, i was like, wow so that's how you answer a question like that!
jungkook: seriously, if we didn't have namjoon.. i wonder what we would be doing right now
namjoon: hey, we all have our own strengths.. i sweat when i'm told to freestyle dance

(on freestyle dance)
seokjin: woah woah that sounds terrifying actually
joon: i think of j-hope, jimin-
joon: and start sweating.. like the expectation that being part of bts should mean i dance well..
jungkook: we have a good balance

joon: and when talk about producing comes up.. we've gotta get him (gestures to yoongi) right away

jin: there's a misunderstanding i do not fight with the company as much as you think i do why are you guys doing this

jimin: (doing an impression of jin) did i come all this way just for that..??? (pretending to flip table)
taehyung: what timing! let's reveal the story right now
jin: this story was actually exaggerated over its many retellings but i didn't actually flip a table over!

jin: i've never even made a remotely similar gesture!
so in bon voyage 1
they said "we'll send you on this trip for your REST and freedom and make you happy!"
for us back then, happiness=food!
but.. we didn't have enough money in allowance for food!
hobi: since it was reality tv!

seokjin: right so they gave us a budget..
and honestly, i was thinking, why don't i have the right to eat /two/ bowls of food because i'm just that hungry!
so i said i was pretty sad/upset about that
but then you guys changed this story into flipping tables and all

jimin: to tell you the truth, what he had said wasn't even that phrase.. i think he said, "well, i really think we should be given enough to be able to eat.."
jungkook: oh he actually said something like "i mean i didn't come all this way to live like this" before leaving

taehyung: but then we heard what he said and..
hobi: we seasoned it, fried it, chopped it all together and-
joon: so they were telling me that he flipped tables and everything!
jungkook: wasn't it omurice and curry rice

yoongi: honestly, it was right after comeback season and we weren't in the best condition.. just after FIRE promotions and we were a little more sensitive..
joon: and jimin lost his luggage..
taehyung: hyung, you had to leave for korea early (*joon lost his passport)

(on losing passports)
yoongi: we really cannot lose the passports we currently have
joon: i am not in possession of said passport.. my passport is not my own passport
jin: yeah we all gave it back for safekeeping
hobi: do you mean.. this passport?? (pulls it out)

(the members are impressed)
jimin: when did you get ahold of this??
hobi: i don't even know.. it was in my shirt pocket?
jin: you almost lost it there
joon: j-hope, that was a good one
joon: these caused quite a buzz..my friends were telling me
taehyung: are you going to keep it?

taehyung: do we get to hold onto these passports?
jimin: no no we have to return them when we get back to korea
namjoon: anyway, it's such an honor to have received these passports (the special diplomatic passports)

(jungkook quietly+carefully taking off his socks)
jimin: don't do thattt
joon: ah ah AH jUNGKook-ah!!
jungkook: hey just let me take off my socks
joon: just take them off (normally)
jimin: i mean what are you doing.. there's that controversy about your toe socks..

jungkook: i don't have athlete's foot! (shows bottom of foot to camera)
joon: look at this! he's doing modern art (shows how jungkook carefully rolls his socks to keep the toe part of the sock nicely uncreased/upright)

taehyung: anyWAYS it was great.
jimin: wrapping up all of a sudden??
jin: tell us exactly what was great
taehyung: well, the UN.. our many schedules.. and we met megan today! met, talked..
joon: omg she's really tall! i looked it up and she's 176.5cm!
hobi: caught me by surprise!

yoongi: she was also wearing heels..
jk: i guess that means i'm still just a little taller
jimin: she seemed really just genuine & down to earth
jin: that's right
jungkook: oh and megan has a dog named 4oe!
taehyung: 4!
joon: his name is four!
jimin: the photos are already up!

jungkook: he was just sooo cute!
hobi: really really cute

taehyung: 4oe has 500,000 followers (on insta)!
jin: that's higher than us
taehyung: i know.. if we made accounts we might get 7000? maybe 10,000 followers?

jungkook: hey, but y-you're #1 most handsome man in the world!

taehyung: anyway today was good!
yoongi: we've been so busy with UN-related activities.. and had so many amazing experiences
jimin: opportunities we never imagined we'd have in our lives
joon: meeting people i'd never meet, getting asked questions i'd never imagined i'd hear

jin: when would we ever give such a presentation to an audience like that?
taehyung: right like i rarely gave presentations at school too
jimin: we were also so thankful when we were told the atmosphere was lighter/brighter, thanks to our presence+speech
joon: and that's our job

jin: not to say this myself/this is incredibly embarrassing to say with my own mouth but.. they said that they had a significantly higher viewership rate as a result of our presentation.
joon: because our armys tuned in!
yoongi: we're really just speakers [for our armys]

yoongi: like it was said in our interviews, there's always been some sort of limit/scope to what is observed and addressed at the UN, but we felt a sense of pride when they told us that we were able to bring in [a wider audience]
joon: i think that's exactly our role

yoongi: there were many saying "well well wHaT aRe yOu siNgeRs gOing tO do at the UN" but we already knew, and came here for that very purpose.
we're here to encourage the SDG (sustainable development goals)
you don't have to look at us with tinted glasses/hold us against biases

hobi: hey, BTS, we did well. you worked hard
taehyung: we really worked hard.. didn't even really sleep!
yoongi: the schedule was really rough this time around
jungkook: it's almost psychologically/emotionally hard

joon: there's gotta be a set number of times my heart should beat, but whatever that figure is, it's been racing a lot faster
taehyung: while doing schedules in america, i've gotten a lot of cold sores on my lips.. i have no idea why!
jimin: you sleep really late,,

yoongi: some people get them more easily
taehyung: but i really didn't even get any side effects after getting my second dose of the vaccine!
jin: it's important to get enough sleep, eat enough, get enough sun, and have enough vitamins..and if you take good care, they'll go away

jimin: sleep enough, drink lots of water
jungkook: build up your immune system little by little!
jin: getting enough sunlight is most important!
taehyung: like this?? (directly getting sunlight on the cold sore)
jin: no getting sunlight in general it'll probably circulate right

(the members joke around that if you get a cold sore on your tongue, you'll have to walk around all day with your tongue sticking out)

taehyung: we have more amazing stuff lined up for tomorrow!
jungkook: that's right we have important schedules
hobi: tomorrow should be the last

joon: i heard thunder/lightning struck quite loudly.. but we have such good weather here..
jungkook: please be sure to bring your umbrellas, everyone!
joon: please have delicious foods, and enjoy your time off for us!

taehyung: when i say "for tomorrow!" you say "i am sorry."
