BREAKING: #HomeToBilo family unable to return to QLD despite new visas
Today @AlexHawkeMP used Migration Act powers to grant 12-month bridging visas to 3 members of the Biloela family. However Tharni has not been provided a visa. The family remains in “community detention". 1/
By continuing to withhold a bridging visa from Tharni, Mr Hawke is preventing the family from coming home to the QLD town of Biloela.
Last week, the Minister made an undertaking to the Federal Circuit Court to issue 3 month bridging visas to Priya and Nades and Kopika.
2/
We are “surprised” by the Minister’s decision to now grant 12-month visas to three of the four family members, while continuing to withhold a bridging visa for Tharni, which would allow the family to return to Biloela. 3/
Australian law gives Minister Hawke the power to bring this sorry saga to a close with the stroke of a pen, by issuing the same visa to four-year-old Tharni that he has granted to her mum, dad and sister.
4/
Just like her sister Kopika, Tharnicaa was born in Queensland, and that’s where she and her family belong.
Experienced migration lawyers tell us they have never heard of a child being denied the same visa granted to other family members in this way.
5/
There is simply no reason to deny Tharni a bridging visa other than to stop her family coming home to Biloela, where they are welcome, wanted and needed. #HomeToBilo 6/6

STATEMENT: Biloela family Federal Court decision.
Today, the full Federal Court handed down its decision involving the Tamil family from Biloela.
In an emailed decision sent to all parties on Tuesday morning, the Federal Court has upheld Justice Moshinsky’s April 2020 decision.
Lawyers for the family will now determine whether to appeal and call upon the Australian Government to immediately release this family from detention while legal matters are ongoing.
Lawyers for the family are currently assessing whether an injunction or stay of orders will be required to protect the family from further deportation efforts.
Priya's dear friend Marie has a beautiful Mother's Day message to share. Can you leave your own message in the comments below?
"Today as we honour and celebrate the mothers in our lives, I want to pay special tribute to one very special lady - Priya ...
As a mother I know what it means to have this desire to nurture, protect & provide for our children; daring to hope & dream for their future. I can’t begin to imagine having my freedom stripped away & every avenue for me to provide for the wellbeing of my children taken from me.
To my dear friend Priya, while we may be separated by many miles, fenced perimeters, watchful guards and government policies, nothing will ever separate the love, respect and well wishes that we, your friends have for you.
The politicians isolated Priya, Nades and their QLD-born girls on Christmas Island, 5,000km from their Biloela home. They are now facing their second Christmas in detention. From today until Xmas Eve, can you join us in taking one simple action each day for Priya, Nades & girls?
We're calling this the “12 Days of Xmas Island”. Today, pls post a card with a msg to Priya & Nades, c/- Phosphate Hill Immigration Detention Facility, Christmas Island, 6798. It can take 2 mths for ordinary mail to reach Xmas Island.
To help your card arrive in time, make sure you add a 50c Australia Post Priority Label.
PS Thank you to everyone who has offered to send gifts to Christmas Island.
