Keir Starmer gets his changes on deselection and leadership rules through, not quite by half a hair on half an eyebrow, but by not much more- 53%.
Nonetheless will be enormous relief to the leadership. They haven’t quite proven that the Labour leader’s writ is absolute but they’ve proven it runs quite far. They see changes to the trigger, in particular, as a real win which will keep MPs from consistently looking inwards.
Though, it has been odd to watch a party debate vociferously the rules to elect its next leader, an election on paper they’re saying won’t happen for, I don’t know, a decade or so.
