To vote in the dominant party’s closed primary, either to decide the election, or to influence the nomination of the candidate likely to win.
In North Carolina, register as Unaffiliated to vote in either party primary; take your pick.

In a red state, don’t complain about Republican primary voters; become one yourself, and vote for the more moderate candidate in their primary.

Then you can’t vote in any primary.
What’s very satisfying is going into their primary and voting Against incumbents.
