The anti-vaxxers/maskers are experiencing a restriction of movement under public health order. Is it discriminatory? Perhaps, however this is where individual rights vs the greater good come into play and all democracies have that exception to freedom
Here's the thing though: these people have never faced a world where they are being restricted from entering spaces not designed for them. They're white, probably economically alright and they're angry because they're experiencing a world that BIPOC know so well
We know what it's like to be restricted from spaces due to the colour of our skin and preconceived notions as to what that means to the safety of power in white spaces. Women know what that's like in male spaces. LGBTQ2S+ know what that's like in heteronormative spaces
Last week I went to Milestones across from the Chateau Laurier and it was vaxxed-only. At first the dude at the front was a little gruff while he "checked my status" but after I "passed" I was guided to an oasis of the vaccinated where in that moment life returned to pre-pandemic
And in this moment I knew what white privilege felt like.
I also knew the implications of that. It felt like safety of being around people of your own ilk: they're vaccinated and so are you. And in this moment I understood some of the ramifications of vaccine passports.
I neither against nor for. I am looking at the way this is going to reverberate throughout society and how that plays out politically. And if we get boosters, this will play out in waves. I'll be watching.
An addendum: are we making sure that the most vulnerable and marginalized are vaccinated? Cause it sure is taking a loooooong ass time to get FN, migrants, inmates, immigrations detention centre detainees vaccinated

I'm loving @AnnamiePaul's resignation speech because she didn't shy away from the fact that the attacks against her have worn her down. That's true, that's real. This is real mental health shit #cdnpoli
The @canadiangreens kneecapped her then engaged in the gaslighting which is what many BIPOC experience in leadership positions. You can't window-dress and expect to solve everything
"Crawling over glass, spitting up blood". I love this. This is exactly what it feels like. She's being very real and I'm here for it. Canada needs to take a hard look at why it engages in so much #misogynoir and the Greens had better take a hard look at their racism #cdnpoli
"What we need is fiscal and policy space to achieve sustainable development, to be nimble, to adapt and to innovate in ways that allow us to be true and faithful to the task of bringing prosperity to our people"
"We want an international order equally that recognizes that there must be different policy prescriptions to suit the circumstances that we all have. And we can still be friends."
That, my friends, is equity.
His father was PM when the federal government took over the administration and operations of Kamloops Residential School until it closed in 1978
Trudeau is going to try to shirk responsibility:
This was a system that was administered at the highest levels of power in Canada and there is no attempt to bring those who perpetuated the genocide to justice. hilltimes.com/2021/06/02/the…
The Catholic Church needs to be held accountable and the more they dig in their feet resisting penance and asking for forgiveness and accountability the more they’ll wear this genocide
