Per attorneys, agreement has been reached for "unconditional release" from supervision for attempted Reagan assassin John Hinckley
Unconditional release would begin in June 2022.... per attorneys at court hearing in DC federal court
Hinckley's mother died in August
He had been living with her, after release from hospital
Attorney: "Mr. Hinckley would like to express his apologies..... of deep regret"
"He apologizes to the families of Jim & Sarah Brady.."
"He apologizes to Ms. Foster'
"He apologizes to the American people"
Attorney: "It's too much to ask for forgiveness.... but he asks for understanding"
Attorney: "He was ravaged by mental illness at the time' (In 1981)
Attorney: Hinckley received "world class mental health treatment"....... "he benefited from supportive family, from excellent health professionals.."
This could be the final court hearing in criminal case filed in 1981 after the attempted assassination of a US President
A 40 year legal battle is ending
Defense attorney: "John (Hinckley) is optimistic about his future..... his life is in order.. his future is bright"
Prosecutors say government has permitted Hinckley to publish his art and music under his own name. In May 2021, Dept of Behavior Health again reported Hinckley was ready for "unconditional release"
US Justice Dept says Hinckley will have to continue to diligently follow current release conditions through June 2022 to secure this "unconditional release" next year
"The ball is completely in Mr. Hinckley's hands", the prosecutor tells judge
