This makes me so mad. Like, we had an entire generation of gay men stigmatized by most of the nation in what was already their most traumatized moment. People who weren’t gay and contracted HIV were often just as stigmatized. There were and are HIV-specific criminal laws!
“Failure to make moral judgments on this behavior is why we have this epidemic. To my knowledge, the President has never said that we are to abandon moral judgment on these types of matters.” - Reagan staffer Carl Anderson, in a 1987 White House memo
That memo was featured in the last part of my 2015 story on how Nancy Reagan turned down Rock Hudson’s request for help in his AIDS treatment efforts. buzzfeednews.com/article/chrisg…
That part of the story is about how, when Reagan finally spoke about AIDS at an AmFAR event, Surgeon General C. Everett Koop wanted language about not judging or passing moral judgment. Anderson wrote that memo urging otherwise. Anderson won and Reagan changed Koop’s language.
Anyway, there are about 1,000 other examples from government alone. It’s absurdist bullshit for Tucker and whoever that is to claim that moralizing was something that “we” didn’t do around AIDS. (Hell, it’s something that people still do.)
Oh, lol. That was Naomi Wolf, so I’m now mad but laughing because it’s all so unbelievably stupid.

So so so very good to be back. 🎭 I’m here tonight because I realized that if I didn’t make it to a theater before Tuesday, I’d not have seen any in-person theater while I was 43. To get to have the one show be a James Baldwin show feels more than right. 💖 To the theater.
🥺 I missed you so, live theater. 😍
It had been 580 days since I last attended an in-person theater performance. I teared up when I picked up my ticket from will call. I sat quietly, filled with such gratitude, as the actors made their opening entrances. We all stood, applauding, as the show came to a close. 🎭
Here's Judge Thapar, Trump's first appeals court nominee, mincing no words and saying that, in his view, Tennessee can do whatever it wants, including a total ban on abortion.
More from Thapar: "But those precedents are wrong."
But, lol. The engagement on this post tells me you can just put this idea back on the shelf.
I really want to have a sit-down with whoever was like, “Shark Tank, but instead of capitalism we make it about activism. By turning the activism into a marketable commodity. So, capitalism.”
We’re still waiting on word from #SCOTUS in John Ramirez’s request for a stay of execution in Texas. Ramirez is due to be executed tonight. Here’s the docket: supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?fi…
Here’s the underlying issue presented, a religious liberty — specifically, RLUIPA — claim, on which he is asking for a stay:
Notably, Texas AG Paxton, which opposes the stay request, is also *opposing* the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty here, which filed an amicus brief supporting Ramirez. supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/21/2…
