In a perfect world, what percentage of the student body would believe that COVID is mostly a hoax, masks are tyranny, the COVID vaccine is worthless and that Donald Trump was justified in the January 6th insurrection?

30%? 50%?

Because that is the Republican mainstream now.
“Ideological diversity” is an expression invented by conservatives to imply that opponents of their ideology are bigots.
Ideology is malleable. Nobody is born believing stupid shit & forced to live with it forever. Ideology is not a birth characteristic.

Many ideas get phased out of public discourse. But you can’t force people to make room for bad ideas just because some people still believe them.
Bemoaning lack of ideological diversity is contrary to the very “marketplace of ideas” conservatives once claimed to support.

There’s a reason almost no Harvard students are Trump supporters. It’s because they’re educated, and they pay attention.
I suppose this addendum was directed primarily to the author of the original post: ⬇️
HARVARD: 87% of our incoming students believe Donald Trump is an incoherent, self-obsessed, & criminally negligent pathological liar. Whereas 6.3% of them thought virtually everyone else was lying and only Donald Trump told the truth.

SULLIVAN: So much for ideological diversity
Again, when our major binary political division boils down to TRUMP vs. OTHER, there’s gonna be a whole lot of us lumped into the OTHER category. There’s no small amount of diversity between socialists, liberals, centrists, and anti-Trump conservatives.

(responding through bullhorn) BECAUSE DECADES OF REPUBLICAN GERRYMANDERING HAVE ASSURED THAT REPUBLICANS COMPRISE A FAR, FAR HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF CONGRESSMEN THAN THERE ARE REPUBLICANS IN THE OVERALL AMERICAN POPULATION
THE POINT IS THAT IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER HOW POPULAR AN IDEA IS: WHAT TRULY MATTERS IS HOW MANY WHITE PEOPLE IN THE SO-CALLED HEARTLAND LIKE IT. YOU CAN DRESS IT UP IN LOFTY LANGUAGE, BUT THIS IS THE BASIC PHILOSOPHY BEHIND CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATION AND THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE
THE REPUBLICANS WHO DEFEND THIS SYSTEM CLING TO AN OUTDATED NOTION OF A CONGRESSIONAL “REPUBLIC” THAT NECESSARILY OVERRIDES DEMOCRACY IN FAVOR OF GEOGRAPHY. MIND YOU, THE 2020 ELECTION SHOWS HOW VERY LITTLE A “REPUBLIC” MEANS TO THEM WHEN THEY ARE UNHAPPY WITH THE END RESULT.

Apparently, the COVID vaccine is Not a True Scotsman
R: The COVID vaccine doesn’t count because it doesn’t work

D: What makes you say that

R: It doesn’t eliminate 100% of symptoms or 100% of transmission, and liberals just whine that not enough of us have taken it

D: That’s literally how all vaccines work

R: EXCUSES, I TELL YOU
R: If the vaccine works so well, why do you care if I take it

D: Because you live in a part of the country where relatively few people are vaccinated, and it does not appear to be a coincidence that you are surrounded primarily by people who share your political orientation

The racist southern conservatives used to be Democrats. Today, the racist southern conservatives are Republicans.

Chatlie Kirk’s proposal to deputize citizens to protect white America from invading brown-skinned hordes sounds a whole lot like the blueprint of the Ku Klux Klan.
The Democratic Party has grown far more progressive on civil rights in the past 50 years. Even Byrd himself renounced the Klan & was recognized by the NAACP for his commitment to racial equality.

I assume most conservatives already know this. But they simply choose to ignore it.
And yet, they persist. They cry out “BUT ROBERT BYRD!” whenever they are confronted with yet another example of the current GOP’s appalling support of racist practices. Their support of police brutality, no matter how blatant or unjustified. Their demonization of immigrants.

D: Republicans are doing a bad thing, and should stop

R: But I found some Democrats who also do the bad thing

D: THEN EVERYBODY SHOULD STOP DOING THE BAD THING

R: No
D: Why not?

R: Hypocrisy loophole

D: What’s that

R: As long as we can find one example of a Democrat who does the bad thing, the GOP can continue to do the bad thing indefinitely without fear of reprisal

D: That sounds insane

R: And by “the bad thing”, we mean any bad thing
R: If everybody does a bad thing, it means that nobody is responsible for it

D: That is the literal antonym of the truth

R: And yet, our national discourse is beholden to a “balanced” discussion where my views must be respected

D: Or what?

R: We accuse the MSM of being biased

As I’ve noted before, the people most consistently threatened by the idea of being socially rejected for their political views all hail from the same side of the political aisle
You don’t hear pro-choice advocates or Biden voters complaining that it’s so unfair that they might immediately be rejected by attractive or desirable people if their true opinions were known
It’s also the side of the aisle that becomes furious & indignant when they are blocked on social media, whereas when liberals are blocked it’s “You can’t see my shit? Cool…”

THIS JUST IN: Trump Supporters Are Fucking Insane

YES, I KNOW the article doesn’t mention who the proprietor voted for, but if he’s such an anti-mask fanatic that he asked a family to TAKE THEM OFF in his restaurant, then it’s 100% certain that he’s a fully-flegded subscriber to the Tucker Carlson White Identity Politics package
And to all media outlets who passively acknowledge that Coronavirus prevention has “become politicized”, you’re being neglectful in your duties.

The Republican Party POLITICIZED the Coronavirus, full goddamned stop.

Subject, active verb, direct object.
