As I’ve noted before, the people most consistently threatened by the idea of being socially rejected for their political views all hail from the same side of the political aisle
You don’t hear pro-choice advocates or Biden voters complaining that it’s so unfair that they might immediately be rejected by attractive or desirable people if their true opinions were known
It’s also the side of the aisle that becomes furious & indignant when they are blocked on social media, whereas when liberals are blocked it’s “You can’t see my shit? Cool…”
What many in this country would ascribe to a simple “difference of political opinion” can actually be a whitewash of some pretty repulsive ideas.
(And this is exactly the sort of situation that I would’ve added to the Purely Hypothetical Scenario if I were still updating it.)
R: I can’t believe OKCupid includes a checkbox “I Do Not Think a Poop-Flinging Monkey Should Be President of the United States”
D: What’s wrong with that
R: There’s no mystery; whatever happened to the thrill & joy of meeting people & finding out later?
MONKEY: (flings poop)

D: Republicans are doing a bad thing, and should stop
R: But I found some Democrats who also do the bad thing
D: THEN EVERYBODY SHOULD STOP DOING THE BAD THING
R: No
D: Why not?
R: Hypocrisy loophole
D: What’s that
R: As long as we can find one example of a Democrat who does the bad thing, the GOP can continue to do the bad thing indefinitely without fear of reprisal
D: That sounds insane
R: And by “the bad thing”, we mean any bad thing
R: If everybody does a bad thing, it means that nobody is responsible for it
D: That is the literal antonym of the truth
R: And yet, our national discourse is beholden to a “balanced” discussion where my views must be respected
YES, I KNOW the article doesn’t mention who the proprietor voted for, but if he’s such an anti-mask fanatic that he asked a family to TAKE THEM OFF in his restaurant, then it’s 100% certain that he’s a fully-flegded subscriber to the Tucker Carlson White Identity Politics package
And to all media outlets who passively acknowledge that Coronavirus prevention has “become politicized”, you’re being neglectful in your duties.
The Republican Party POLITICIZED the Coronavirus, full goddamned stop.
D: Maybe you would reach a different conclusion if you listened to what the CDC was telling us
R: But it’s FAKE NEWS
D: Oh, FFS
R: Once you understand COVID is a Democrat hoax no worse than the flu, it becomes quite obvious that mandates are part of an anti-freedom agenda
D: So you think the US government is enforcing lockdowns because they hate our personal freedom, & that’s it?
R: In the words of Sherlock Holmes: once we eliminate everything that we have been repeatedly told is impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth
Thanks, New York Times, but I prefer more realistic scenarios like “Which Harry Potter Character Is Your Soul Mate?”
1. The American people do not have the attention span for 6 viable political parties 2. As it stands, we barely have two 3. They are nominally called “Democrats” & “Republicans”, in what I presume is a nod to tradition 4. More accurate party monikers would be “TRUMP” vs. “OTHER”
5. It is not news that most Americans hold views that fall outside the confines of our current Party designations 6. That is irrelevant to the pragmatic issues which Americans currently face
Put another way: Our elected Democrats keep making these predictions because they really, really, REALLY hate to consider other, more aggressive alternatives
