If you look closely at all the tactical mistakes that PBKS have done in the last two seasons, you'll know that the root cause is that the think tank doesn't realise/accept that T20 is fickle format where you can do most things right but still lose due to freak things. (1/n)
+
First game last season, they lost to DC in a super over while playing a perfect team, but the result of that was that they dropped their best death bowler in Jordan for the next match and played Neesham at 7, who didn't add much to their bowling or batting. Not only that, (2/n)
it also meant Rahul was anchoring and Cottrell, who was a new ball bowler, was bowling at the death, which resulted in loss to RR at Sharjah. Next game, they drop another bowler to strengthen the batting and go in Maxwell, Neesham & Gowtham to bowl 8 overs against MI. A line up
against which Jordan should have come back. Result of it is Gowtham & Neesham bowling at death to a rampant Hardik & Pollard and both of them together concede 97 runs in 8 overs. Against CSK in the next game, they bring back Jordan but he bowls his first over inside PP, his (4/n)
weakest phase and that too the 6th over where batters are looking to maximise. Result, Sarfaraz is dropped after 3 inns, never to play till date again. And Mujeeb comes in the team who's batting NUMBER 7. They lose vs SRH and retain the same team vs KKR in the next match which(5)
they lose by 2 runs in a chase where they promote Prabhsimran ahead of Maxwell. Meanwhile, Rahul continues anchoring despite having a negative impact in at least 3 games. At halfway stage, Punjab have lost 6 and have no clue about their best XI and have already played 16 players.
And these 16 players don't include Gayle. They bring in Gayle & Hooda and strengthen the batting, and somehow they are batting second in next 4/5 games which they win. Also, the trio of Mash-Bishnoi-Arshdeep start turning up. Now they have won 6 and need 2 to reach play offs.(7)
All this while they have an opener who isn't maximising PP and a bowling line up which is experienced on paper. In the next 2 games, they have to bat first, Rahul scores 46(41) in a score of 185 and bowling falls apart as well. In the next match as well, Rahul plays a 29(27) and
the batting doesn't do much and PBKS crash out. These number of changes show how much the think tank has been result oriented & not process oriented which is so important in any format of cricket. The think tank has never had the foresight to make changes depending upon condition
They have been almost always been reactionary and never looked to maximise their resources. Rahul did win the orange cap, but it came at a huge cost. It was the lowest SR for any orange cap winner in 13 seasons of IPL. Why I didn't take this season to explain these issues?
To showcase the pattern has been existing for a season and nothing has changed. Punjab might win today vs KKR, but Rahul opening and batting like this isn't going to solve anything. If he wants to anchor, he should move to middle order.

Contrary to what seems to be the popular belief that a 10 team IPL will increase the gap between Top 3-4 teams and others due to player quality, I believe it's the quality of think tanks that will make a bigger difference. You need to look at a PBKS or SRH and see for yourself.

Even DC, one of the successful teams in the last 2-3 seasons, haven't been great with their OS buys. Also, have a look at the players who are on the bench. SRK, Porel, Umesh, Ishant, Mishra, Gowtham, Jagadeeshan, M Ashwin, V Vinod, Sarfaraz, Markande etc can be good additions
+
Then look at OS players who franchises miss out on picking because of their Aussie bias. I believe that two new teams will help us in seeing more individual talent for sure, but if it translates to more competitive cricket or not, will depend totally on who the two new franchises

So many things wrong in this tweet that I can't even...

1. It's NOT a turning track.
2. Sweep with conviction & be aggresive are two different statements which could easily be mutually exclusives.
3 Field was already spread.

Will explain the 2nd point in the thread below

+ Image
Cook played the sweep with conviction in 2012 but he wasn't overly aggressive while facing Indian spinners. Plus, sweep is a special shot which not every batsman can play. Pietersen was aggresive in Mumbai but he didn't play the sweep much because the pitch had extra bounce.
+
Pujara & Mayank are pretty aggresive when it comes to playing spin, but they rely on using their feet. Pujara does it to play along the ground, while Mayank goes aerial. Same for Rohit, out of these 3, only Mayank rarely plays the sweep. In fact, in the current top 6, only Pant

Thread:

Single performances winning you tests are rare, and as a batsmen nearly impossible as a team need 20 wkts to win. So the argument that a player performs in 'wins' is not a good enough to judge someone's ability in any way. Those performances have turned out to be winning
contributions because others have stepped up. Wins only make those performances memorable. On the other hand, what carries more weight regarding an individual ability is the performance(s) that come in a loss, because they truly show where you stand apart from your peers in terms
of skills & character. Tendulkar & Kohli are often brought down by the logic, 'ohh they have performed in losses & are not match winners or are selfish'. Anyone saying this couldn't be more wrong since those performances showed everyone else why they were better than the rest.

Think adjusting for OS spinners in Asia on their first tour is very similar to how Asian pacers adjust outside Asia. Mostly, the first tour is a struggle regardless of quality because they are not able to judge the right kind of line & length to bowl. Sharing the numbers for Lyon
Swann & Panesar to add some weight to what I want to say.

Swann avged 39.5 & took 8 wkts at a SR of 75.3 in his first tour to Ind (& Asia) (08-09). In 2012, he avged 24.75 & took 20 wkts at . Massive improvement which was also due to one tour each in BAN, UAE & SL.
Panesar took 5 wkts from 6 inns at an avg of 62.4 & SR of 141 in his first tour to IND (2006). In 2008/09, he avged 50.5 & took a wkt every 101 deliveries for his 6 wkts. Those numbers came down to 26.82 (avg) & 64.5 (SR) with him taking 17 wkts. Again, constant improvement.

There's a reason why it's called 'PooPindia'. I mean one could easily write an article, make an arguable case for Virat being a better cricketer. The numbers are there for the article to be a good one. But when you're obsessed with tagging your countrymen, this is the best effort
There's a reason why I said this. There is hardly any data to even say who voted for who. Any Indian could have also voted for ABD, and I am sure there would have been some. What would that make them, pro SA? This one publication can only & only label
Indians in the name of nationalism. How sick your definition of nationalism could be when you label your own countrymen everyday. Pathetic & disgusting.

Thank you @cricvidya team for inviting me. It was a pleasure to talk about the SCG test & discuss the issues around it. Posting the clip where I speak about the issue of racism & how we all must collectively work towards eradicating it by some individual steps by being more aware
of what we say. We must take a leaf out of @Eoin16's book & appreciate diversity and embrace it fully like he did when he spoke of @englandcricket's success in #CWC19 & how diversity was a pillar for it. (2)
Lastly, we must look within ourselves and call out the racism at home first (have spoken of Hardik Pandya & the jokes he keeps receiving on his skin colour) while we are standing with our people who are being subject to racism abroad. We shouldn't be selective in anyway and
