We’re now 40 years into the #HIV response, with a great infographic from @UNAIDS highlighting key accomplishments, but there is still much work to be done! #ph260720
Despite incredible progress expanding #access to HIV treatment to over 27 million people worldwide, we are still leaving some groups behind #ph260720. Which groups do you think are being left behind?
HIV treatment #access for children has always lagged behind that of adults, with only 54% of children living with HIV on life-saving treatment compared to 74% of adults #ph260720
And once children are diagnosed with HIV, historically #HIV treatment options have been sub-optimal, although recent developments supported by Unitaid and CHAI have dramatically improved options for kids unitaid.org/news-blog/grou…#ph260720
For those of us working in the #HIV response, we need to be asking ourselves how we can do more to close these gaps. Are we thinking beyond white men who have sex with men in our programming? Are our programs culturally sensitive and relevant? #ph260720
So while we need to celebrate the successes of the #HIV response, we need to remember that progress has been unequal and much work remains #ph260720
