Following the launch of #Turkish military operations and the extremely volatile situation in northeast #Syria @MSF has taken the difficult decision to suspend the majority of its activities and #evacuate all its international staff from northeast Syria. #OperationPeaceSpring
@MSF Since Wednesday 9 October, the extreme volatile situation in northeast Syria has forced MSF international staff to evacuate from MSF’s projects in Ain Issa, Al Hol, Tal Abyad, Tal Tamer, Tal Kocher/ Yaroubiyah, #Kobane/ Ain Al Arab and #Raqqa city. #OperationPeaceSpring
@MSF These have been extremely difficult decisions, as @MSF
is very aware of the needs of fleeing and vulnerable people in the region. #OperationPeaceSpring

So I'm at a physics conference this week in Lecce, Italy. Some of you wonder how that works given that I'm Deaf and probably don't know Italian Sign Language. Well... 1/N #deaf #interpreters #asl #access #physics
In most cases, I can just request ASL interpreters (yes, American Sign Language interpreters) months in advance. Who pays for it? Good question. That's something I've fortunately been mostly kept out of the loop on, rather than the discussions that happen at the conference! 2/N
But so we get terps set up months in advance, great. They're ASL, because I've barely had the chance to pick up any other language and it's my secondary mode of communication. ASL terps are hard to find in non-English speaking countries... UK too! UK uses BSL primarily. 3/N

1/ Hi everyone! Today we’re going to take a bit of time to talk more about protocols, permissions and some Indigenous-led projects and resources relevant to the #GLAM sphere. And we’re going to start talking about #metadata!
2/ As we’ve mentioned, in many Indigenous knowledge systems, a person’s right to access certain information (especially traditional knowledge and customs) may be bound by specific, contextual permissions. #OpenGLAM
3/ Here’s an example relevant to the G in #GLAM: the proceedings from @_FPCC's Cultural Protocols & the Arts Forum in 2014. As the late Dr. Greg Younging said, “Protocols provide guidelines for behaviour.”

1/ Happy Wednesday afternoon @OpenGLAM community! Today we're hoping to talk a little more about the L and the A in #GLAM: #Archives and #Libraries and some of their experiences with #OpenAccess re. Indigenous materials and belongings :)
2/ #Openness & #access are inseparable & access is a core value of librarianship & the archival profession. In both the American Library Association @ALALibrary Core Values & Int'l Federation of Library Associations & Institutions @IFLA Code of Ethics access is @ the forefront.
3/ The ALA’s Core Values of Librarianship state that "all information...should be readily, equally, & equitably accessible to all library users." Likewise IFLA pinpoints Access to Information as the core mission of librarians & other information workers.

The #AugarReview is out today. I haven’t finished reading it, but here are some first impressions.

There’s much to praise. It’s measured and well argued, but ultimately it won’t solve the problem of post-18 education funding.

A thread...
The return of maintenance grants is the biggest positive, intended to end inquity of the poorest students graduating with the highest debts. #AugarReview
The reduction of fees to £7.5k is not enough to achieve anything positive for students. Anyone put off by £9,250 isn’t going to see it as a bargain and it will benefit only the graduates who earn most and won’t repay for as long #AugarReview

What would National #SuicidePrevention Strategy for India look like:
1. We need to believe it is possible. With concerted effort China has dramatically reduced their suicide rates.
2. We need to implement evidence-based, low cost scalable solutions. They exist.
...contd 1/n
3. Need different strategies for sub-groups. Same solution won't work for students, young women, rural/urban, farmers etc.
4. #suicideprevention is an #intersectoral issue. All solutions do not lie in #health sector; #education #employment, #media #agriculture also imp....2/n
5. Recognise India's suicide epidemiology is different from the West. M:F ratio is 1.5:1 here while it's 4:1 in West. So more women relatively. 50% of suicides impulsive with no mental illness 🇮🇳 while 80% have mental illness in West...3/n

Thread alert! If you want to learn more in #disabilitystudies there are a lot of open access resources. Let’s start with Disability Studies Quarterly (dsq-sds.org), one of the leading journals in the field, which is 100% open access.
Other open acces journals include Disability in the Global South (dgsjournal.org) & Review of Disability Studies (with a delay: rds.hawaii.edu)
I personally link to my articles on my website & anything that is behind a paywall I put up as soon as I’m allowed under the publishing contract. I particularly recommend the convo between @JulieMinich, Jina B. Kim & me in the open access journal Lateral.

Planned Parenthood wants you to think it only kills babies occasionally.

It has claimed that abortion makes up just 3% of the services it provides, as if snuffing out the lives of unborn children sporadically somehow makes it more excusable morally.
washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/planne…
For years, it has guarded the 3% figure & a complicit press has reprinted it uncritically. #CecileRichards repeated it during congressional testimony. Journalists at CNN, Politico & NYT publish it w/out qualification. It's repeated so often, it has become an ironclad lie.
Unraveling the truth would be a disaster for Planned Parenthood. Congress might not write it as many taxpayer checks if the public learned that the largest abortion provider does, in fact, make its money by performing abortions — 328,348 abortions a year.

this is so bad. it’s the Axios reporter who suggests “legal scholars” say executive orders from WH can over rule Constitution—they can’t
so it’s actually the reporter who presents false premise, which Trump then embraces. #journalism
I falsely assumed that when Trump said executive order could overrule Constitution that Axios reporters aggressively fact checked him—instead they did opposite. #access

Part I – The FISA Court Grants The Authority, Not The Ability…
theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/05/23/par…

1) There is a meeting scheduled tomorrow between key congressional oversight committee heads (Nunes, Gowdy etc.) and leadership of the FBI (Director Wray),
2) DOJ (Edward O’Callaghan) and ODNI (Dan Coats). The meeting was set up by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, and the purpose of the meeting is to come to some agreement on access to documents being withheld by the DOJ, DOJ-NSD and FBI.
3) However, amid the ongoing debate over spies & informants used by the CIA & FBI to conduct political surveillance, there’s an aspect of the ongoing investigation that seems to be entirely overlooked.

On January 7th, 2016 the Inspector General of the National Security Agency,

Surveillance Target Sam Clovis Discusses His Contacts With FBI/CIA Intelligence Agent Stefan Halper…
theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/05/22/sur…

1) I'm working on rather comprehensive outline to put all actions w/in larger political operation together; things in sequence will make much more sense.
2) However, in the interim, here’s former Trump campaign adviser Sam Clovis discussing his encounters with CIA controlled intelligence agent Stefan Halper.
3) [*Note* For the sake of context, intellectual honesty & narrative transparency, it is important to note that Sam Clovis is legally represented by Victoria Toensing, wife of Joe diGenova. The reason for this understanding will become more obvious at a later date.] WATCH:
