Delhi High Court is hearing a plea pointing out the poor condition of the LNJP Hospital, New Delhi stating that dead bodies are lying in the same ward for 5, 10, 20 hours and they are not releasing them.
Petitioner's counsel: There are 3 people on the same bed.
"It is high time that your hospitals gear up", Delhi High Court tells @AamAadmiParty led Delhi Govt.
HC: Who are you?
Petitioner: My Lords, I was being treated at the hospital.
HC: And are you treated?
Petitioner: Yes, my Lords.
HC: Mr. Aggarwal (for Delhi Govt) is smiling. You've been treated by LNJP, hope you're thankful for that.
[JUST IN] Delhi High Court tells @AamAadmiParty led Delhi Govt that it must gear up and do something about the alleged condition of the LNJP Hospital, New Delhi where dead bodied allegedly lying in the same ward for hours together, 3 people put on same bed, etc @shreyagarwal_12
The petitioner states that it seeks to bring to the notice of the Delhi High Court, the "unfortunate state of affairs at LNJP Hospital whereby the life of Petitioner as well as that of
hundreds of other patients is under threat."
Therefore the petitioner seeks the court's "intervention in balancing of interests and protection of Petitioner’s paramount rights under Article 21 and also under Article 14 which essentially is the manifestation of Gandhian socialism.."
It has been stated that at the LNJP Hospital, "there is an acute shortage of basic essential equipment like wheel chairs and stretchers which shortage is adding to the deteriorating health of the Petitioner as well as other patients admitted in the Hospital."
"Infrastructural lapses such as lack of
seating arrangements at the Hospital both for attendants as well as the Patients, damaged ceiling in washrooms, etc" have also been pointed out in the plea.
It has been said that the state of affairs raises serious concerns wrt "basic safety and well being of the people since the attendants have to sleep on roads inside the LNJP Hospital premises", exposing themselves to various risks including that of Covid-19 and dengue.
Alleging "botched up administration" it has been stated that, "#LNJPHospital does not test patients prior to and even post admission of #Covid19 and everyone is admitted in the same ward with 3 patients on the same bed in very close proximity to each other."
Highlighting the lack of space and impossibility of maintaining #Covid19 social distancing protocol, the plea says, "In a ward with six beds there are always more than 20 people including the attendants, thereby making it impossible to maintain social distancing."
The petitioner adds, "attendants of patients are made to keep their mobile phones as mortgage for issuance of wheel chairs / stretchers," as the set "modus operandi enacted for ensuring safety of wheelchairs and stretchers is to keep attendant’s mobile phones as security."
