Tata acquires Air India for 18,000 cr 🤯

Did you know, Air India was founded by JRD Tata?

Here is the incredible story 👇
1932, Air India was the brainchild of the legendary JRD Tata,

btw he was also India’s first licensed pilot.
1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, nationalized the airline,

They took it out of Tata’s control with a 49% stake in the carrier by 1952.
During that Tata era,

It was considered to be the best private airlines of the world.
But nationalizing the airline didnt really work,

Air India was losing INR 20 Cr everyday with total debts going over the roof at 60,000 Cr
2018, Indian government tried its best to privatize Air India,

but failed marking a successful end as they couldn’t find any takers.
October 2021,

Tata Group took back control of Air India for a whopping 18000 Cr

They beat Spicejet’s bid of 15000 Cr 😅
It’s been a long wait from 1932 before the buyback finally happened

Ratan Tata has never failed to impress even once.

So what if Nano couldn’t make a mark?
The world hasn’t forgotten the iconic acquisition of Land Rover Jaguar

Anyways, I believe this deal is going to be a landmark event for the airline revival in India
Tata group will be allowed to merge with Vistara and AirAsia as well..

Now, Air India will be able to compete with other economy carriers like SpiceJet & Indigo
Finally, Air India is on its way to become a world class airline;

A dream that JRD Tata saw long back.
The best part,

Air India stays with an Indian business hand 👐

Truly an Indian moment. Isn’t it?
I personally used to dislike travelling by Air India,

Now I am looking forward to my next Air India flight 😅

Ease my trip becomes a unicorn 🦄

But the best part, they are completely boostrapped.

Here is how they did it 👇
Ease my trip started 14 years ago by Pitti brothers - @nishantpitti, @rikantpitti & @ppitti

While strong players with deep pockets like goibibo and clear trip always existed,

Ease my trip played a very simple game.
The likes of goibibo, make my trip, clear trip etc would always promote aggressive discounts,

but as you apply discounts and went ahead to pay,

ShareChat just launched ShareChat for Business

It can change the game of digital marketing in the coming years.

Here is why 👇
ShareChat has 180 Mn+ monthly active users, the majority of whom are from tier-2 & tier-3 cities

Semi-Urban and rural India is going to have 644 million internet users by 2025 🤯

But wait, how does it matter?
Semi-Urban India doesn't have the spending capacity, right?

WRONG!

PM Modi launched a new payment solution,

It works without internet, any app or even a bank account 🤯

It's called e-RUPI, here is everything about it 👇
The digital payments space in India is spinning,

First, the ban on Mastercard from issuing new cards in India

Now, e-RUPI will work similar to Sodexo coupons.
It’s not an end to Paytm Karo or Gpay but looks like an attempt to serve the digitally “unbanked” section of the society with:

No credit cards or debit cards,

No internet banking,

No payment apps,

So, what’s e-RuPI?

Byjus acquired Toppr and Great Learning yesterday,

I am blown away by their series of acquisitions.

Here is a short thread on the saga 🧵
6 acquisitions in 2021 alone.

First, they acquired Epic for $500 MN a few days back,

I thought the acquisition storm has passed for now but I was wrong.
Within a week, they now acquired both Toppr and Great Learning 😅

The amount is undisclosed at the moment but the last time I read,

The total deal size was supposed to be around $500 million.

That would mean, $1B in less than a week.

Zomato went IPO today.

The first Indian "startup" to do so,

Here is why I think Zomato can win long term :
1. DATA

The data they have on you as a consumer and also the sellers data of what selling the best and why is worth billions.
They could easily start super cloud kitchens catering to hyperlocal needs pocketing most of the profits.

btw remember, Amazon originals?

The unfair advantage here?

Zomato has more data than Swiggy due to the review and discovery business.

MasterCard has been banned in India 🤯

But it's possibly a good thing for us,

Here is why 👇
Due to a possible data violation, RBI banned MC from issuing new cards.

What does it mean?

Massive adoption of Rupay ( owned by RBI ) and VISA
Btw, MasterCard currently holds 33% market share,

Banks like RBL, Yes bank only issue Mastercard,

Around 40% of Hdfc, Axis issued cards are Mastercards 🤯

The best part?
