15 of the best books to start a reading habit

A thread...
1. How to read a book
amzn.to/3ncVnU7

Seriously, such a book exists and it is actually a terrific book for those who want to start a reading habit.

A classic, I remember reading it in Class 11th or so. Super helpful :)
2. The Alchemist
amzn.to/30o6T77

@paulocoelho stunned the world with the power of affirmations, through this book. A delightful, powerful book to start your reading habit.
3. Sita: An illustrated retelling of Ramayana
amzn.to/3vgzaYx

@devduttmyth's rendition of Ramayana is joyful, especially through Sita's eyes. If you like mythology, you will love this.
4. Kite Runner
amzn.to/3FPfBvp

A breathtaking story of a young boy named Amir and his search for redemption. This will bring you to tears. Great start to reading, if emotions are what you value and cherish.
5. Malgudi Days
amzn.to/3DI1F4r

I grew up watching Malgudi days on Doordarshan. You can start with the book, which does a far better job of the masterful storytelling by RK Narayan. Brings out the child in you.
6. Diary of a young girl: Anne Frank
amzn.to/2YPLnYa

This will be hard-hitting, but if you treasure real stories and history, there isn't perhaps a better book that does justice to both.
7. Tuesdays with Morris
amzn.to/30npj7X

One of the first books I read in life and I am so glad I did. It made me fall in love with reading, simply because of the delightful journey this book took me on.
Highly recommended!
8. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F**K
amzn.to/3aFHhVg

For the modern age reader, @IAmMarkManson brings the most authentic and (surprisingly) uplifting book in recent times. This can be a great start to reading, if classics are not your thing.
9. Milk and Honey
amzn.to/3j6nUJI

If poetry is your thing, then @rupikaur_ is your go-to lady. She has a way with words, to bring to life what we all feel every so often.
Wonderful book to start your reading journey.
10. The Secret
amzn.to/3lJfiKF

Much like The Alchemist, The Secret also defined an entire generation and introduced the power of belief. Wonderfully inspirational book and can be just what sets you up on a book-loving ride :)
11. Who moved my cheese
amzn.to/3p0Am1j

I remember reading this in Class 12th and wonderfully how could someone write such a simple book to illustrate such complex aspects of life.
Highly recommended as your first book.
12. There's Treasure Everywhere: Calvin & Hobbes
amzn.to/3FNO5OO

Comics are a great way to start a reading habit. They are light, they are visual, they bind us. And what better comic to start with than Calvin & Hobbes, where humor becomes valuable life lessons.
13. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
amzn.to/3lIeyFH

This is a comedy sci-fi classic. Very little to not like about this masterpiece. If you are a geek, you are going to fall in love with this book.
14. Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance
amzn.to/3lI8T2r

A beautiful backdrop of a father-son motorcycle trip ends up answering fundamental questions of how to live.
Absolutely awesome book!
15. Atomic Habits
amzn.to/2YOMk39

I do not know of any recent book that is so meaningful, simple and widely loved as this masterpiece by @JamesClear
A terrific book to build your reading habit.
It fascinates me that everything that has ever happened in this world - every emotion every event, every study, has been captured in some book out there.

And if we were to discover the right one for ourselves, our life could change, forever!
I have benefitted immensely from books.
And I would love to share that joy with all of you.

19 lies the world feeds us about jobs

A thread...
Lie 1:
You cannot become wealthy through a job.

Most wealthy people I know, became so because of having a fulfilling steady job.
We don't talk about them because we salivate on the startup billionaires, of which there are only so many.

Consistent Salary + Investing = Wealth
Lie 2:
You are unambitious if you are an employee.

A startup isn't for everyone.
I have met the most ambitious, committed, driven professionals who derive joy from their jobs. They would make terrible entrepreneurs.

It is this awareness that makes them successful.

12 career lessons I have learnt along the way.

A thread…
1. “If I can’t trust you, it does not matter how smart you are.”

The words of my first manager have stayed me forever.

Trust is everything.
Once I was able to generate trust for myself in others, I began to see opportunities that weren’t visible until now.
2. Curiosity drives learning

Be curious.
I ask questions.
I try to figure out why things happen the way they do.
I spent time getting to know my customers, my colleagues.

Approach things with child like curiosity.
If you do, you will have a clearer reason for why you do things

I was lost at 24.

A thread…
“You have a degree in physics. You are now thinking of dropping out. No one will ever hire you. Don’t do this”

These were the words of a friend, a friend who meant well, in Sep 2003.

I had called him because he had changed careers after physics.
And I thought he’d understand.
For the longest time I know, I wanted to become a space scientist.

And here I was, at the age of 22, in the US, enrolled in a PhD program, on a 100% scholarship.

This is what I had preparing for my entire life.

15 audio books, if you do not like reading.

A thread...
1. 12 Rules for life

Narrated by the author @jordanbpeterson, this phenomenally simple yet powerful book will challenge a lot of your beliefs.

2. Can't Hurt Me

@davidgoggins is not just a masterful author, he is an exceptional narrator too.

His hitting life experiences hit me, made me realize my privileges and left me with the biggest lesson - no one can hurt me, if I don't agree to be hurt!

5 principles we lived by, in my previous startup
1. Hiring Principle

Attitude >> Experience >> Education

We designed our hiring process to check for culture fitment, attitude, curiosity.
Which meant looking at the resume much later. Instead starting with understand the person.
2. Leading Principle

Every manager needs to have a 1:1 with their team member, at least once a month.

And the question of whether a 1:1 did happen, will be answered by the team member and not the manager.

If they felt it was more of a review and less of a 1:1, there was no 1:1
