Most people are selfish with money - when they should be more selfish with their time, energy & attention...
Never allow anyone waste your time, including yourself!
Time is the very fabric that life is made of.
Consequently - if you value your life, you’ll value your time.
70% of your time should be spent doing meaningful work.
20% should be spent on hobbies that make you smarter, happier, healthier, richer or more socia.
10% should be spent on trivial things.
Employ these two mental models to become time conscious;
1 - Value your time at an hourly rate
“Set and enforce an aspirational personal hourly rate. If fixing a problem will save less than your hourly rate, ignore it. If outsourcing a task will cost less than your hourly rate, outsource it.” — @naval
2 -Value your time based on output
List the core activities of your day and allocate time slots to them. Now you’ll know the opportunity cost of every time wasted.
Value your attention
You must read, yet more importantly, know what not to read.
There’s wisdom in resisting whatever may be engaging the masses at any time.
Hone your attention, curb your distractions and intensify your focus.
Value your energy
Being energy conservative is even more important than being time conscious.
The problem with being too frugal with your time is that you can very easily become obnoxious or borderline neurotic.
You grow irritatingly impatient. And by obsessing over only doing important things - you’ll quick become a bore to yourself & those around you.
To be more productive /- watch how you expend your time. To become more effective /- watch how you expend your energy.
Always look to conserve physical energy, vocal energy, sensory energy, sexual energy, & mental energy.
When you learn to give everything the right amount of time, attention & energy they deserve - then nothing can stop you.
