Congratulations to 🇶🇦 Qatar on winning election to the U.N. Human Rights Council.
Credentials: Caused 6,750 migrant workers to die for 2022 World Cup; women suffer discrimination; supports terrorists such as Al Qaeda in Syria, Jihadis in Libya and Somalia, the Taliban and Hamas.
"The large number of Member States that voted in favor of the election of Qatar for the fifth time embodies the confidence of the international community in the active and positive role played by Qatar in the field of protection and promotion of human rights and related issues."
"It also reflects the well-established approach and policy of the State of Qatar towards the promotion and protection of human rights at the local, regional and international levels, and the fulfillment of its obligations in this regard." qatar-tribune.com/latestnews-art…
"The election of the State of Qatar comes in recognition of its wide record of initiatives to bring peace in the world and support mediation and dialogue between countries to resolve conflicts."
As I wrote: "For tyrannical regimes, winning a world human-rights post constitutes a stamp of legitimacy."
"Why not eliminate the legitimizing facade of elections, and simply make each U.N. member state an automatic member of the Human Rights Council?" wsj.com/articles/expan…

On Friday you cut me off while presenting a report on UNRWA teachers' systemic antisemitism. You read out a prepared statement accusing me of "inflammatory remarks" and ruled me out of order.
Otherwise, I will be calling on U.N. Secretary-General @AntonioGuterres to publicly declare:
1. That my quoting of antisemitic posts by UN teachers can in no way be characterized as "derogatory, insulting and inflammatory remarks" nor as "personal attacks."
2. That the highest human rights body of the United Nations has just sent a dangerous message to the world when, without any basis, you summarily and arbitrarily blocked me from presenting a report about systemic antisemitism incited daily by the teachers of UNRWA, a UN agency.
🚨 CENSORED: @UN_HRC just stopped me from calling out UNRWA teachers who glorify Hitler & incite antisemitism. Chair says I made "derogatory, insulting & inflammatory remarks"—by quoting their own Facebook posts. "This amounts to personal attacks. This statement is out of order."
UNHRC Chair Nazhat Khan is making up a rule that does not exist.
I have every right to quote the racist Facebook posts of UNRWA teachers—funded with hundreds of millions by US, Germany, EU, Canada—and to name them.
#Cuba, where there is no democracy, has a draft on "Promotion of a democratic order."
#China, which detains 1 million Muslims, has a draft on "Realizing a better life for everyone."
#Venezuela, a failed state, has a draft on "Enjoyment of human rights."
Venezuela, China and Sri Lanka: "Stresses the utmost importance to eradicate colonialism and address the negative impact of legacies of colonialism on the enjoyment of human rights."
Cuba: "Reiterates that democracy includes respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms and is a universal value based on the freely expressed will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems and their full participation in all..."
@SweMFA: "Sweden is not participating in the UN meeting celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and action plan. There is a long and politically charged history behind the Durban Conference and its follow-up meetings.
The previous conferences have inter alia been criticized for not adequately addressing the issue, that is, the fight against racism. They have also been criticized for having antisemitic elements and for directing disproportionate criticism of Israel.
Several countries therefore do not associate the Durban Conference with the fight against racism, and the process has been politicized. As a result, several countries have chosen not to participate at all in previous conferences, as in today's meeting.
Cuban propaganda trumpets Diaz-Canel's speech today to U.N.'s Durban IV racism conference.
How can Cuba speak on human rights after crushing thousands of peaceful protesters, or on racism after the Castros destroyed black civil society & leadership, replacing them with puppets?
"Black civil society, which had played an important role in empowering black Cubans over the first six decades of the 20th century, was systematically dismantled by the Castro regime." @johnjsuarez
“Racist attitudes persist in Cuba under the Castros. This is reflected in rates of interracial marriage being lower in Cuba than in Brazil which has a much higher level of inequality than the Caribbean island, and has not undergone a communist revolution.”cubacenter.org/archives/2020/…
