Tonight is an Emperor’s New Clothes moment for the world. The TPLF have just flipped the kill switch on their war because they now know they have lost and they want to burn all of Ethiopia.
Meanwhile global news media are obsessing over a plane that could not land because of tweets from “nutty professor” @ProfKindeya, a serial liar, the basic facts about which are contested, and even if true, completely irrelevant to what is happening in this conflict.
This is the biggest war in the world, and it is yet to receive any significant news coverage in both the EU and the US.

The UN is directly implicated. The UN Humanitarian Chief at the outset of the war, responsible for the aid operation, has recently written an oped where he repeats TPLF lies about how the war started.
US and EU diplomacy is equally clueless. They have elected to stand by and watch the ruthless slaughter of 1000s of civilians in Ethiopia by TPLF forces, who openly describe their actions as being in “revenge”.
And now that they are finally coming to terms with their failure they have called on all the people of Tigray to take “revenge” against their fellow Ethiopians. The border is 1000s of Kms long, the terrain is mountainous, millions will now be fleeing border areas most likely.
The UN has failed catastrophically in Ethiopia in a manner unprecedented in its history. This is significantly worse than every previous catastrophe, orders of magnitude worse than Srebrenica and Ruanda.

The only hope now is that the UN, US and EU all reverse course, completely. Publicly demand that TPLF surrender immediately, withdraw their calls / instructions to the Tigray people. And unconditionally support Ethiopian efforts to end this with all means at their disposal.
They cannot undo the harm that has been done. But they can begin to make amends.
