My friend Jacqui is trying to save her son’s life but progressives won’t let her. Why? Because he needs to be arrested, and the drug dealers who stab him & sell him fentanyl need to be arrested, and deported, and progressives are against arresting people they label “Victims”
Progressives say arresting murderous drug dealers & addicts is wrong and they point to Portugal and Netherlands as nations that legalized drugs as models.

But both Portugal and Netherlands arrest drug addicts and drug dealers and sentence them to prison or mandatory drug rehab
I asked the head of Portugal’s drug program point blank what would happen to people like Jacqui’s son who shoot heroin and smoke fentanyl in public. He said, “They would be arrested.” When I feigned surprise he said, “Yes! You would be sent to the police station.”
In research for my new book, San Fransicko, I discovered that the Netherlands, like Portugal, AND EVERY OTHER CIVILIZED NATION, arrests drug addicts and drug dealers caught doing their business publicly.

Progressives are lying to the American people.

Progressive lying about drugs is not a noble lie but rather a lie that contributed directly to the nearly 100,000 people who died, unnecessarily, of drug overdoses and drug poisonings in 2020.

Progressive lying about drugs and the need to arrest dealers and addicts is deadly,
Progressive & lazy journalists are as much to blame as George Soros, who spent tens of millions of dollars promoting the big lie about drug dealing. All any of them had to do to debunk the lie was interview Europeans or read this study:

bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…
Ideology more than laziness explains why almost EVERYONE got drugs wrong, including me

I worked for George Soros to decriminalize drugs in the 1990s

Even so, I always thought drug treatment had to be a MANDATORY not voluntary alternative to prison

Saving the life of Jacqui’s son can be done immediately. This is not like expanding nuclear energy, which will require more than my lifetime to achieve. It can be done in a day. San Francisco mayor @LondonBreed simply needs to order the police to arrest Corey & the drug dealers
It’s true that San Francisco’s progressive DA @chesaboudin might not prosecute, and that one of SF’s progressive judges might not sentence them.

But simply arresting & jailing Corey will allow him to detox, and the dealers, here illegally from Honduras, can be deported by INS.
All this requires is courage from @LondonBreed to do the right thing. The reward to her will be immediate: she will have saved Corey’s life. Yes, progressives will scream at her, and call her a racist. But they always do that, and by standing up to them Breed will attract support
Next, Breed could take emergency action to require continued arrests by police of anyone caught using drugs publicly, camping publicly, defecating publicly, etc, followed by jail, detox, and sentencing to rehab. Breed could demand that Gov @GavinNewsom support her efforts
Does this sound hard? Sure, there are logistical challenges, but they are manageable, just as they were in Lisbon, when the President sent in social workers and police to shut down the open heroin scene. They offered methadone and rehab, and then arrested those who refused.
The alternative is that we continue to let drug dealers, here illegally, kill our children and fellow citizens, out of fear of standing up to the big progressive lie about drug addiction and drug dealing.

I for one cannot stand by any longer as these murderous policies continue.
Jacqui and I and other parents have decided to begin a campaign of nonviolent civil disobedience to demand that @LondonBreed shut down the murderous drug dealing in San Francisco

We are going to hold a nonviolent “die in” in the Tenderloin where we will break laws in a protest
We will coordinate with the Tenderloin Police Department @SFPDTenderloin to make sure that we and everyone else is safe. We are going to carry out civil disobedience as practiced in the long tradition begun by Henry David Thoreau, and developed by Gandhi and Martin Luther King.
We have no other choice. We are desperate. Nothing we have done to date has worked to save Corey’s life.

We held the first-ever protest of drug dealers in the Tenderloin in May, and have met with the politicians, some of whom even spoke at our protest

sfweekly.com/news/san-franc…
We built a state-wide coalition that today includes parents of kids killed by fentanyl, recovering addicts, community leaders, and service providers. We launched our coalition with a major event in Sacramento at which gubernatorial candidates spoke

californiapeacecoalition.org
HarperCollins published a book that my staff and I spent the last two years researching and writing. It’s on its way to becoming a best-seller. A signed and personalized copy was given directly to Mayor @LondonBreed week. But it’s not enough to save Corey

amazon.com/gp/product/006…
And so Jacqui and I and other parents of children on the verge of being killed by murderous drug dealers are going to put our bodies on the line. We are going to lie down in ways that are illegal and will get us arrested in one of the most dangerous open drug scenes in America.
If you would like to participate either directly or indirectly please be in direct contact with me. My DMs are open

What is happening in SF is immoral, full stop. I cannot look my children in the eyes and tell them I’m doing everything I can to help a friend save her son’s life

It is understandable but wrong to blame parents for children who become addicted to hard drugs. Of course parenting matters. But so too do the facts that the culture encourages drug use; we lack a functioning mental health system; and that SF has effectively legalized hard drugs
The fact of the matter is that Corey is already everyone else's problem.

What makes Jacqui special, a rare jewel among the millions of parents with drug-addicted children, is that she overcame her shame to speak out publicly, and demand action
She first did so in the fall of 2019 & has continued to speak out ever since

I admire Jacqui very much and am proud to call her my friend

Out of admiration for her and her courageous story, I made her a pivotal character in San Fransicko

Democrats modeled their climate & environmental plans after California but we are facing energy shortages, saw our electricity prices rise 7x more than rest of US over the last decade, and are going to replace our last nuclear plant, which provides power to 3 million, with diesel ImageImage
Californians spend 30% more for gasoline likely due the deep corruption at the highest levels of government, which have existed ever since former Gov @JerryBrownGov manipulated pollution laws, and killed nuclear plants, to benefit his family’s oil monopoly Image
California gasoline prices are now $4.50/gallon, which is 50% more than the national average

California is their model for the rest of the U.S. because in the progressive view, energy is bad and should be scarce and expensive — a win-win for oil barons & Malthusians

Greta Thunberg said “I want you to panic” and nations did. They over-invested in unreliable weather-dependent energy sources & under-invested in reliable energy. Now, global energy shortages are forcing the poor to choose between food & electricity ImageImage
Overdependence on unreliable energies isn’t the only reason for energy shortages. Post-pandemic economic recovery resulted in higher energy demand. And too little natural gas stored on-site after a colder-than-expected winter played a role.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/skyrocketing…
But the heavy investment in unreliable renewables made energy supplies more vulnerable to a single commodity’s volatility. Today’s grids mean that high gas prices cause energy price spikes and a return to the dirtiest forms of electricity production, including diesel and coal.

Everyone’s mad at West Virginia ⁦@Sen_JoeManchin⁩ but if Democrats really wanted action on climate change they would just do what the British, French, and Japanese have all just announced they will do, which is return to building nuclear power plants michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/if-democrats…
In an extraordinary coincidence of timing, progressive climate activists discovered last weekend that West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has ties to the coal industry at the very same moment that he made clear he wouldn’t support their legislation.
The novelist Don Winslow created a powerful Twitter video showing links between to the coal industry and Manchin’s wife, son, and daughter. It has gone super-viral.

Progressives are mad that Sen. Manchin killed the climate provisions in Biden's budget, but they shouldn't be. The provisions would have increased electricity prices, blackouts, and emissions. Congress should pass nuclear-focused legislation instead.

michaelshellenberger.substack.com/p/why-bad-clim…
Progressives are mad that moderate Democratic @Sen_JoeManchin has reportedly opposed the inclusion of climate-related legislation in President Joe Biden’s budget “This is absolutely the most important climate policy in the package,” said Canadian political scientist @LeahStokes
Stokes helped write the legislation. “We fundamentally need it to meet our climate goals," she said, "That’s just the reality.”

But that’s not the reality. The “Clean Energy Performance Program” is not needed to meet climate goals, and might actually undermine them.

Big pro-nuclear victory!

“UK to put nuclear power at heart of net zero emissions strategy” reports @FT

It took a crippling energy crisis driven by over-dependence on renewables, and under-investment in nuclear, for UK to finally reach a tipping point

Readers of Apocalypse Never will recall that the book pivoted around my visit to Britain in 2019, where I had the surreal experience of making the case for nuclear at 10 Downing Street, and to then Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, as Extinction Rebellion activists shut down London
Why, I wondered, were the people who claimed to be most apocalyptic about climate change — eg Extinction Rebellion activists glueing themselves to train cars — also the most opposed to nuclear power?

That question is at the heart of Apocalypse Never
