The statements made today by @chief_filice were embarrassing to the residents of the @CityofSalinas. Filice has been the acting Chief for a little over two months because of @AdeleFrese's extended vacation and the only question Sara Rubin of the @mcweekly asked him was about
2/ a crisis in staffing and then a follow up by @MontereyHerald reporter @wrightscribe about ... morale, or staffing? There were three questions total from the "press" one from the Weekly and another from the Monterey Herald. None of them hit the point that #Salinas is a city in
We have a sheriff running away from office - 14 months ahead of time and a County Seat that is in trouble - that being #Salinas - the largest city in Monterey County.
As usual there was a lot of talk about how much the community
4/ means to @chief_filice that he lives here (tbd) and how he cut grapes in Italy (which I suppose makes him relatable to the immigrant community in @kimbleycraig's mind) and that he wants to recreation only the best officers - no lowering of standards.
Chief, the problem
5/ w/ @SalinasPD isn't and wasn't with the officers you hire it's what they learn from the Fetherolf, @Kelly_McMillin's and @adelefrese's of the world.
So far what they see is large but politically connected narcotics traffickers getting a pass, criminals getting gun permits and
6/ politicians getting away with public corruption. The same politicians that rub elbows with you at all these publicity events.
That said, this one one of the worst, low attendance announcements of a new chief that I've seen in decades.
That wasn't because of the pandemic. ###

Eric Dickerson had an interest in a note that was an asset of yet another Ponzi scheme "trust deeds" conman, named Don Lukens. Dickerson was a victim.
*note held a fractional share of interest in a piece of real property on the beach side of Hwy 1.
Regarding the story of @SalinasPD getting @chief_filice as it's new #Salinas CA police chief, @ksbw ran down a list of all the law enforcement CEO's bailing on their jobs, locally.
@CarmelPD fmr. Chief Tomasi left to become head of security for the @MontereyAq.
2/ That's interesting because @Calkins_Royal reported on the @CarmelBTSea hiring a former Carmel cop to write a report on a spousal abuse investigation re/ Sheriff Steve Bernal's brother.
That cop? Bill Uretsky. Bill Uressky's brother, a former cop, was head of security for the
3/ Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's as though the @juliepackard run non-profit is a jobs creator for political insiders. Seems fair, right?
And Julie Packard's sister, Nancy Burnett, whose son Jason Burnett was mayor of Carmel for a minute, sold a 17 acre Carmel Valley property
Guess what MoCo? The only person to file the initial statement of intent to run for office is the Chief of Del Rey Oaks PD. @ChiefHoyne
Steve Bernal dropped a bombshell 14 months ahead of the November 2022 election - he isn't running for another term.
Bernal has racked up one
2/ controversy after another with some that may cross a criminal line.
Bernal was ushered into office in 2014 when a group of multi-millionaires (and a billionaire) funneled over $750,000 into the deputy's campaign. Bernal was selected in 2012, filing his FPPC501 statement one
3/ year into then Sheriff Scott Miller's first term.
Bernal's first obstacle in 2012 - he didn't live in the county of Monterey.
Three months prior to the November 2014 election a change of momentum shifted things for right-wing Steve Bernal when @DoloresHuerta shockingly
This is a blast from the past in @MCoSheriff office politics. The guy on the far right, literally, is fired/disgraced menace Mike Richards, Dave Drew's best friend in law enforcement.
cops for wearing their complete uniform in political ads. These geniuses took a sharpie to their photo/art to obscure Monterey County and call it good. Think they care about the law?
In Scott Davis defense, I never heard anything criminal about him and he is a politically
3/
ambitious guy, in other words, while some of his conduct violated parts of the policy manual in these political ads, it was low hanging fruit. And I hate low hanging fruit.
Scott Davis, who may run for Sheriff again, is standing next to Byrl Smith in the center.
Californians, Ill try to Twitter'splain one of what I believe are @CASenCaballero's criminal conduct going back to 2001-2006. Gerry Kehoe, a Key West bar owner landed on Salinas and purchase a building in Oldtown Salinas. A bank building at 201 Main. The guy refinanced his house
in Key West FL but claimed to be the CEO of Berkley Jury's Doyle - a foreign major hotel operator in the early 2000s.
Kehoe lied. He submitted forged and fraudulent documents to the @CityofSalinas as part of a bona fides package, to get into a contract with the public entity.
Kehoe's fraud succeeded but something mysterious was discovered. CITY HALL was in on the fraud and this included people like them Mayor @CASenCaballero and others, Janet Barnes, Jyl Lutes ... some real sleazy pols on the end.
