First, what’s with different numbers? These are not the questions we’ve used. Pew used different wording & MOST importantly, different response options (they discuss this in the report). They’re gonna get somewhat different results. So not strictly comparable to our findings. 2/8
Do percentages seem low? Again, different measures. Further, we already found declining CN between 2007-2017, so lower was expected. AND CN has been on blast for a year+. I’d be SHOCKED if social desirability wasn’t curbing affirmative CN responses by March 2021 (post Jan 6). 3/8
That said, Pew's church-state integrationist category & our “Ambassadors” are actually quite comparable.
Pundits eager to cite Pew's findings to dismiss CN as fringe need to explain how 36 million adults (14% of 258 million) is “fringe.”

Further, note the representation among white evangelicals (WEs).
The PLURALITY of WEs are church-state integrationists (bigger than WE separationists by 10%) & on every indicator of church-state integration, they roughly double the total sample. This IS NOT FRINGE among WEs. 5/8

Biggest story is associations between Pew categories & reactionary politics. JUST what we’d expect. The more adults (particularly Whites) favor church-state integration, the more they love Trump, deny racial inequality, & hold xenophobic, nationalist, & traditionalist views. 6/8
In sum, Pew shows:

-Integrationism (for whites in particular) is strongly associated w/reactionary politics 7/8
