Jaleswara Temple, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Built:- 12th century AD
According to the local hearsay, the temple was established by a Keshari ruler named Padma Keshar. According to the prevalent legend, the king of Chudangagada was an ardent devotee of Lord Lingaraja.
⬇️
Hence, he would visit Lord Lingaraja every day. Since it was very difficult to commute during the monsoon season, Lord Lingraja appeared in his dream and asked him to construct a temple in the center of the adjacent lotus pond. The King followed Lord’s instructions and built.

the present temple, which stands on the western embankment of the Jalesvara pond. To perform the daily rituals and other religious ceremonies of the temple, the King gave land to the Brahmins of Rahanga Sasan. Hence, the place is also known as Kalarahanga.
⬇️
The Jaleswar Siva Temple is one of the finest examples of the Kalingan architecture. It has a Vimana, an Antarala, a Jagamohana and a Nata-Mandira The head of the temple is 2.30 m tall. Above the Antarala is a Sukanasa designed which is flanked by two miniature Rekha Deuls.
⬇️
Above it, there is a chaitya motif which is flanked by two conches and surmounted by a Gajakranta. Above Gajakranta is an image of flying Lord Hanumana who is carrying a hillock in his right hand. The Jjagamohana of the temple appears to be a later construction because the

Maa Dakshinesvari Kali Temple, West Bengal. On the eve of #Diwali & #KaliPuja
Thread
It is widely believed that in Bengal, noted 16th century Vedic/Tantric Sadhak Krishnananda Agamavagisha was the one who started Kali Puja. The tantric scholar had once dreamt of Maa Kali,
⬇️
who had until then largely been associated with death and darkness. However, the dark Devi instructed Agamavagisha to worship her in a form that highlighted her in a more motherly avatar. Thus, Agamavagisha is often attributed with popularising the worship of Kali in a milder

iconography a form that is still worshipped across Bengal to this date.
Basically Maa Kali is represented as a woman with dark skin, four hands and long flowing hair. The top left hand holds a kharga (sword), while the bottom left hand holds the head of a demon she has slayed.

The Wheels of Konark Sun Temple, Odisha.
The most attractive architectural significance of Sun Temple, Konark is it looks like a moving Chariot that contains 24 wheels. Each of the 12 pairs of wheels has eight spokes with a central medallion and protruding central axle,
⬇️
often with an axle pin still depicted.
The medallions on the wheel spokes are carved with manifold deities, erotic and amorous figures in various poses.

Similar medallions occur on the face of most of the axles, with images such as Krishna playing on a flute amidst cowherds,
⬇️
people seeking mercy, and a king seated on an elephant facing a group etc.
The preservation of the intricate carvings on the temple platform and wheels is partly due to them having all been buried under sand brought in by the coastal winds over the centuries.

Tomorrow is the Maha Snana Purnima & Gajanana Besha of Mahaprabhu Shree Jagannath from the Aishwarya Dham & Martya Baikuntha: Puri.

🙏Jay Jagannath🙏

(See thread)
⬇️ ImageImage
It is observed on the Purnima or the full moon day of the Jyeshtha month in the Hindu calendar and is said to be one of the oldest festivals. Celebrated just before the world-renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Deva Snana Purnima is a ritualistic bathing ceremony.
As per Skanda Purana, when Raja Indradyumna installed the wooden deities, he arranged this bathing ceremony, and hence, the day is celebrated to bathe the trinity. While Puri attracts thousands of visitors this day, the festival is celebrated in other parts of Orissa as well.
