Very excited to hear from @DrBreeden and Jeremy Wright-Kim as this year's winners of the Bobby Wright Dissertations of the Year #ASHE2021 🧵

First up, @DrBreeden presenting her dissertation "'Miles away, but in our own backyard': A participatory action study examining relationships between historically white institutions and Black communities" #ASHE2021

@DrBreeden names it directly: historically white institutions are complicit in harming Black communities through a web of mistrust that includes enslavement, medical abuse, urban renewal, and gentrification (to name a few) #ASHE2021

@DrBreeden used endarkened feminist epistemology, which centers Black communities as knowledgable beings and creators of knowledge while centering spirit and care through her research. Absolutely beautiful.

The use of participatory action research as a method was intentional. @DrBreeden talks about the ways scholars often go into and take from communities without giving much back. #ASHE2021

Wow! @DrBreeden discusses the various, *many* public ways she is sharing their research with broader publics. So many of us could learn from these multiple ways of speaking back to the very people and communities we purport to serve #ASHE2021

@DrBreeden presented her findings through a play with community members, using particular vignettes to spotlight different themes #ASHE2021

Up next, @jwrightkim discussing his dissertation entitled "An exploration of the dynamic financial impacts of community college baccalaureate (CCB) adoption" #ASHE2021

@jwrightkim looked at the access/enrollment, financial, and methodological dimensions of community college baccalaureate adoption in the entire dissertation; the work he'll explore in this session relates tot he financial impacts #ASHE2021

Community college baccalaureate degree authorization often requires student/workforce needs and must include proof that a similar degree is not offered by other four-year institutions in a state @jwrightkim #ASHE2021
