1) La Palma thread for Nov 5.
2) From 6 hours earlier.
3) Activity at 5:00 pm (Canarian time) is less intense than in previous days. Sulfur deposits are observed in some areas of the edifice.
4) Our colleagues who are doing miniDOAS measurements in maritime mobile position sent this video of the lava delta (12.30 pm Canarian time).
5) The lava flows from the Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption on La Palma have not affected a new surface in the last few hours, although the volcano remains active with an oscillatory behavior and "very strong" variability.
6) The #volcánCumbreVieja enters a phase of ups and downs, although it maintains its intense activity

Yesterday the trend was expected to mark a decline in activity, but today's data reflect a slight rebound that does not point to an upcoming end of the eruption

9) Elemental sulfur deposits appear for first time. A reaction
w/H2S to form sulfur, would imply the magmatic component
of the gas is lowering and increasing the emission of H2S. This fact does NOT imply an end to the eruption, but a clear change in its dynamics.

2) 11 patients died Saturday after a fire broke out in a H Covid-19 ward (in the Indian state of Maharashtra). 17 patients were in H ward in the Ahmednagar where the fire started, said Police Inspector Jyoti Karkade. The remaining 6 patients are stable, she added;

2) Pfizer’s antiviral pill for Covid-19 trial stopped early, after drug cut H admission or death risks by 89%, for adults at risk of developing severe disease. Pfizer results surpass trial results of Merck molnupiravir, which halved death or H admission risk for similar patients;
3) German state leaders said on Friday that hospitals could soon soon become swamped by Covid-19 patients and a new lockdown might be needed unless urgent action is taken to reverse a surge in cases;

Estimates: Penn National earnings per share were seen dropping 20% to 64 cents, but sales were set to gain 34% to $1.51 billion.
Results: Penn earnings per share declined 44% vs. a year earlier. Revenue came in at $1.51 billion.

Penn down 21.57% at $57.04 (-$15.69).
