This is why the UK Statistics Authority wrote to the Tory Party during the 2019GE to reprimand them for claiming "more students are now in outstanding schools than in 2010"

Also reprimanded over funding claims
4 times I believe
#edutwitter
This is how UK politics works, policies are designed to produce metrics that can be lauded at elections, the reality on the ground, the impact on real lives isn't important, they just need a stat they can quote and hide behind in the face of questioning. Policies 4 slogans not ppl
Below inflation increases for education, wages and other services allowed them to claim "more money than ever before" while funding" while in real terms we saw an 8% decrease per pupil, lost 15k support staff, reduction in teaching numbers and workload increases
As for claims Academisation raises standards...
The data shows no evidence of that this is the case, independent research from Education Policy Institute came to the same conclusion
And this is before we look at how the system was gamed to favour academies
There has been a push to fail LA schools and forced academisation and there are many raised eyebrows at what appears to be special treatment for large MAT's which just so happen to be linked to Tory donors, hedge funds, venture capitalists.
No one should be suprised by the rampant corruption seen with covid contracts
Its how DfE has been run for 11 years, those who developed policies, benefit from them, are rewarded and then up regulating the system

Its rotten⬇️
We see the same now with "Catch up funding"
Covid and supply costs are draining budgets, we get a fraction of the money recommended, a fraction of what other countries are providing

Big chunk of the new money is going to the National Tutoring Programme
Remember how that was going to be a silver bullet?
Over a year later its barely got off the ground but looks to be providing good revenue for private companies
Queens Speech and Budget didn't do enough to even address the issues we had pre pandemic, never alone the situation we face now

This government doesn't value education for the majority
Ofsted boss is from a big MAT
Children's Commissioner is from a big MAT
Regional Schools Commissioners are from big MATs
Exams regulator has ppl from big MATs
DfE advisors are from big MATs

Education system now resembles revolving doors we have in the financial sector
While we continue to be starved of adequate funding we will see the system continue to be stacked in favour of the favoured faces

Academisation will continue to be the false promised lands while education is captured by those linked to the Tory Party
This gov is always thinking about keeping power at the next election not improving people's lives thats why they'll focus on phones not funding, behaviour but not supporting services.
Culture wars are cheap and they can create straw enemies that we need them to protect us from
If they really cared about education they would have invested in ventilation and air filtration in the 2020 summer holidays.
Instead we have yet another year where we face disruption, unknown long term damage to children's health and in some cases deaths

🧵Some one is spending a lot of money and resources on this

In unrelated news Patrick Fagan former head psychologist of Cambridge Analytica is in multiple disinformation groups
C19Assembly set up to gift over a deaths audit they claims would prove most covid deaths weren't covid deaths

Now an unverified annonnymous reporting form for adverse reactions, interesting bunch of characters

HART, the hub of crap thats feeds into US For Them, UK MF Alliance and others

Here we can see the support Fagan provides for disinformation groups

But they already have this power via the covid bill, they've used it several times, Greenwich and to several schools who tried to break up for half term
So @halfon4harlowMP is doing this just for UsForThem/CRG brownie points
And who is calling for school closures? People want measures like ventilation and masks

This is about reframing calls for measures as calling for lockdown,
@halfon4harlowMP
April and May 2020
Prioritise testing in schools, PPE in schools to reduce transmission, nightingale schools for social distancing

Then Tory chums put him in contact with UsForThem....

Very little media coverage of the JCVI minutes, except @DailyMailUK that decides to take a pro infecting children stance

And do so by platforming Livermore who was a member of antivax HART group.
Image
Some basic journalism would have helped

"Human shields" wasn't an Independent SAGE comment, it was a US MD who writes extensively about covid disinformation

⬇️
Article then gives a platform to people who have been constantly wrong, including GBDs Livermore, and goes on to try and create concern for 5+ vaccines Image

🧵Stories that should be scandalous headlines, because they have caused preventable death and suffering

The lab failures, no idea how big the issue is, crony contracts at the heart of it
2. JCVI minutes regarding the decision not to offer vaccination

Positive about infections, consider using them as way of booster infections in adults

🧵JCVI minutes published...

Looks like I was right, JCVI mainly only looked at PHE's own studies, the ones they've gaslit us with for over 18 months

Also show an unhealthy number of assumptions with little evidence to back them, and very positive about benefits of infection
One of the presenters providing evidence on harms to children was Ladhani, who used mainly his own studies which concluded transmission isn't a significant issue in schools.
"The bioethics community has concerns about vaccination that doesn't directly benefit the individual"

Who make up the bioethics community?

Sticking to "community transmission" line, though accepts secondaries played some role in December

🧵Isolation booths

The article is a bit of a mess, ban/regulate are interchanged, isolate/segregate interchanged

Its a subject where sides are firmly entrenched and its used to batter wider views on education

I don't like booths but fine with removal roomss with tables in rows Image
Students do need to be removed from lessons at times, for a large number of students getting taken out for the rest of the lesson and getting a detentention is enough of a deterrent.

But we all know students out all the time, falling further behind, they get stuck in a cycle
We aren't going to see booths or removals banned, no matter how exercised ppl get about it, its not on policy makers radar, we can't even get protections from a virus thats killed hundreds of us.

But booths/removal arent a solution, its a short term fix to keep a lesson going
