1/ Life indeed comes to a full circle, and the Maharaja is back home!

Airlines is a tough #business. I hope the recent acquisition of Air India by Tata Group brings back the glorious days of the airline.
2/ There was a time when Air India's in-flight service was among the best in the world.

The government, though, for years had been trying to sell the airline, which had racked up losses worth $9.5bn.
3/ This year, my family and I had planned our travel at various times from Bengaluru to San Francisco non-stop via Air India flight. Most frustrating. They canceled on us twice with just 1 day's notice.
4/ The flights were booked 2 months in advance! And our bad luck, this happened a total of six times! It’s never a good feeling to have your plans upended last minute, several times.
5/ The journey of Air India:

1932: Tata Sons, helmed by business tycoon JRD Tata, launches Tata Airlines

1946: It becomes a public company and is renamed Air India

1948: The govt of India acquires a 49% stake in the carrier

1953: The government nationalizes Air India
6/ 2007: Air India merges with Indian Airlines, a govt-owned airline that only operated domestic routes

2007-08: Air India continues to post losses

2018: An attempt to sell a 76% stake in the airline attracts no bidders

2019: Air India posts a net loss of ₹36,290 Cr

1/ There are few companies that fundamentally change consumer behavior.

@Flipkart re-defined how we shop. @zomato changed the way we ate. @Olacabs did so with how we commute. However, the most significant shift was to the way we transacted.

@Paytm pioneered digital payments.
2/ @vijayshekhar is an unconventional entrepreneur who proved that heart and effort can take you to dizzying heights of success and glory. He has become iconic to Indian #entrepreneurship.

If you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to embrace crisis.

Yes, you read that right. In any entrepreneur's life, every day is a bit of a #crisis. Things go wrong, people misunderstand, conflicts occur — crisis is a constant companion.
Most #entrepreneurs learn to "deal with the crisis" over time. I don't think it's enough to treat crisis as unavoidable & hence reluctantly deal with it.

To be successful, we need to proactively embrace crisis & excel at dealing with it.
- Crisis can present opportunities
- It can enable the next generation of leaders to emerge
- It can inspire new ideas & solutions for problems that might not have otherwise been attempted
- Each crisis changes the way you do business

जब तक सांस तब तक आस, they say in Hindi.

Roughly translating to "till there's life, there's hope". In my life, I've thought of it more like, "till there's work, there's hope." (1/6)
Because in our paths, disappointments will be plenty - Investors who don't understand the vision, employees who don't share your drive, friends who think you've very high expectations, customers who aren't ready yet - none of this your fault, but all of it inevitable. (2/6)
To be a successful entrepreneur, to build something that doesn't exist yet, you need to accept (even expect) finite disappointment without ever losing infinite hope.

Here are some ways to do it. (3/6)

Alexander's last 3 wishes. A thread.
Alexander had created one of the largest empires in history by the age of 30, stretching from Greece to northwestern #India.

He was undefeated in battle and is widely considered as one of history's most successful military commanders.
Once he was returning home after conquering many kingdoms. On his way back, he fell ill. Physicians tried their best to cure him but couldn't, which resulted in his death at age 32.

Legend says these were Alexander's last 3 wishes. Over 2300 yrs later these are still applicable.
