US inflation is up 6.2% year on year - highest increase in 31 years. Now we wait for the impact on asset prices...
If you felt it was a great idea to buy a house for the sole reason interest rates are at all time lows... it's about to get exciting
this is the one chart to keep you up at night (along with those Russian baddies),it's not wage growth inflation, it's higher prices driving the surge

That's a bad place to be, because eventually you need higher wages to maintain purchasing power & it spirals into a complete mess Image
the Fed would LOVE to end up at maximum employment with 2% inflation but that's solving a rubik's cube blindfolded during load shedding
if there's only one takeaway here:

when rates increase, there are winners... & it's usually not you

the dirty business behind financing clean energy [thread]
global coal capacity is responsible for 40% of electricity generation globally driven heavily by India, China, Indonesia & Vietnam

in SA, 87% of our electricity comes from coal*

*this excludes coal used for hookah & braais
SA just locked in $8.5bn* in funding to transition away from coal from the US, EU & UK. Whenever developed nations are cheering on for Africa, it's worth pausing

*This buys you roughly 2x bottles of Armand de Brignac at KONKA or a double popcorn combo at Ster Kinekor ImageImageImageImage

this guy failed financial crime 101
financial crime 101, the basics

- don't use the company laptop
- don't buy stock under you & your wife's name!!
- don't close out trades the morning of the deal announcement
- don't leave a search history Googling other insider trading cases
- avoid insider trading completely
why do guys keep doing this? here's another case from a few years ago

Keen to YOLO on a meme coin & buy a lambo? Looking for the next Shiba? Here's a quick guide [Thread]
1. Winners get to the party early & leave early

By the time you hear about the pump, it's too late. When it's run 10,000% up sure you might squeeze a bit of juice, but you will probably end up holding the bag

Mia Khalifa or Meek Mill tweeting about it? It's over. Don't touch it
2. Make sure you can actually exit

There's no point having 7 figures locked & loaded but you can't get out because

a) transaction (gas) fees will ruin you
b) there's just no liquidity in that unheard of meme coin

When you're trading/ investing few things matter as much as size (size matters!)

100 bucks at a 80% return = 80 bucks
1000 bucks at a 10% return = 100 bucks

With a smaller account you find folks take on disproportionate risk instead of preserving capital - it usually ends badly
I bring this thread back at least once a month
Blackrock has $9.496 trillion in assets under management

Tag a % fee on that quantum & you can quickly see how size matters (& we aren't even counting the juice from front running Fed purchases)

Should you rent or buy? [Thread]
"You're paying someone else's bond"
"A house is not an asset"
"Landlords get rich in their sleep"

We have R15k property seminars, overpriced "beaches" in JHB, adult res blocks next to highways & SMEG giveaways when you blow R1m on a jail cell in Midrand

It's fucking exhausting!
"House prices always go up!"

Mostly true except not all properties are equally attractive. That Clifton pad IG baddies love tends to underperform the Midrand prison. Must be the garden furniture.

price bands, location, inland/ coastal & freehold vs sectional title all matter!
