Thanks to all of you who raised your voices to say we won't accept the sacrificing of the Global South. We won't accept anything short of #ClimateJustice.
Our executive director @chilledasad100 is about to deliver your demands directly to world leaders at #COP26
@chilledasad100 1/ "The richest have ignored every moral and political call to do their fair share. Their Broken promises are littered across 26 COPs. Empty press releases drafted by polluting companies no longer fool anyone.
@chilledasad100 2/ Covid vaccine inequity and ‘net zero 2050’ are just the latest examples of a deliberate sacrifice of the poor for profit by those whose wealth was and continues to be looted from the global South.
Whilst we are frustrated, and angry. We are not without hope.
@chilledasad100 3/ We know that it is ordinary people who change history. And we will change history
The era of injustice is over Chair. We will uproot the systems of oppression with our
Global Green New Deal to guarantee everyone the right to live in dignity and in harmony with our planet."
@chilledasad100 4/ Earlier today we also met with @BorisJohnson and told the UK government that failing to do its fair share of effort, continuing to support the fossil fuel industry whilst cutting aid to to the Global South, wasn't #ClimateLeadership.
@chilledasad100@BorisJohnson 5/ We also told him that the UK's proposed outcome, which sees rich countries refusing to do their fair share of effort and refusing to take responsibility for the damage they've caused, whilst making vague promises on finance, will lead to failure at #COP26.
Our event, From Crisis to Justice, pathways to a #GlobalGreenNewDeal has started.
Unfortunately, due to technical issues, this will not be live streamed (however we will make a recording available as soon as possible).
But check out the thread below for some of our highlights
"Neoliberalism has taken a wrecking ball to the welfare state and communities in the Global South but also in the Global North. Taking away the basic things we need for a dignified life.
Any Green New Deal, needs to deliver for all of us." @KateAronoff
@KateAronoff "Green New Deal conversations should be a basis for rupture, for movement building, to build class conscience.
When we say uproot the system, the system has a name - it's called capitalism"
Staff working for the six Palestinian NGOs recently criminalised by Israel were hacked with Israeli NSO group spyware.
Israel systematically uses repressive technologies to silence human rights defenders, as part of its occupation and apartheid regime. theguardian.com/world/2021/nov…
Israel uses extensive surveillance of the occupied Palestinian population to crush dissent and maintain control, with systematic disregard for human rights.
Israel then markets and sells these repressive technologies globally as ‘battle-tested’ – meaning developed through use on the occupied Palestinian population.
UN experts have called for a ban on the sale of ‘life threatening surveillance technologies’: ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/…

"We are facing multiple crises: a crisis of vaccine apartheid; economic recession and poverty; billions without access to universal services.
System change not climate change is the slogan of our movement, today, we will populate that system change." @chilledasad100
@chilledasad100 "Discussing justice without discussing land & housing would be unjust. They are questions of dignity, equality, food access & revolutionary democracy.
The social value of land must come before commercial value, prioritising humanity ahead of profit."
Today 460+ Public Development Banks (PDBs) meet at in Rome to discuss their plans for funding agriculture projects.
PDBs are meant to improve lives through strategic investment.
Instead, they've become a profit-making scheme for the financial elite.
🧵Here's how. 1/7
PDBs are generally established by governments to finance government programs and private companies "doing good," mainly in the Global South.
They are responsible for $2 trillion a year in spending on infrastructure (from roads to power plants) and economic investment. 2/7
PDBs are continually reducing spending on government and non-profit programmes, and increasing the money channelled through private (for-profit) businesses and corporations - in the name of "green finance."
The financial backing of PDBs reduces corporate risk. 3/7
The UK government just announced its "ambitious" climate target. This much is clear: it is failing to act with the urgency needed.
Research shows that to do its fair share the UK must hit zero emissions by 2030 AND give £1trillion in finance and technology to the poorest. 1/6
Scientists have rung countless alarm bells that the devastating impacts already being felt by the world's poorest at just 1°C warming will be dwarfed by runaway climate change if the 1.5°C guardrail is breached. 2/6
Across Africa, Asia and Latin America, collapses in food production, killer floods, droughts and extreme weather events will devastate the lives of those least responsible for this crisis. 3/6
