On #VeteransDay, we come together in gratitude for the heroes who have answered our nation’s call to serve. Today, & every day, let us vow to honor this sacred pledge: just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we leave no veteran behind when they return home.
Since our earliest days, and in our darkest hours, generations of patriots have proudly stepped forward to defend our nation — and after their tours of duty, many veterans have blessed our nation with their continued service in our communities.
The Democratic House has worked to honor the valor and sacrifice of our veteran community. And Congress applauds the leadership of @POTUS Biden to end the ban on transgender Servicemembers as well as developing a new strategy to prevent suicides in military & veterans community.
As our nation #BuildsBackBetter in the months ahead, Democrats will not rest until all those who have fought for our freedom can enjoy the benefits they have earned and the future they deserve. Read my full statement on #VeteransDay here: speaker.gov/newsroom/111121

Today, @SenateGOP again undermined the sacred right to vote and harmed their own constituents when they blocked the #JohnLewisVotingRightsAct.
While Republicans greenlight this assault on the ballot for their own political gain, Democrats are fighting back.
Right now, our nation faces the most sinister and severe campaign of voter suppression since Jim Crow. Across the country, GOP state legislators and GOP-appointed judges are silencing the voices of voters.
The House-passed Voting Rights Advancement Act empowers @TheJusticeDept to block voting restrictions imposed by states with dark histories of discrimination & ensure voters have fair access to the ballot – a cause to which our beloved John Lewis devoted his entire life.
The Affordable Care Act continues to deliver on Democrats’ promise that affordable health care is a right, not a privilege. Starting today, families will be able to enroll in affordable, accessible and life-saving coverage for the new year in the 2022 ACA Open Enrollment Period.
This year, @POTUS and @HouseDemocrats built on the success of the ACA with the American Rescue Plan. Nearly 3 million more Americans gained access to life-saving coverage, families are saving an average of over $800/yr and 4/5 families can access coverage for under $10 a month.
Now, Democrats are working to pass the #BuildBackBetter Act to extend enhanced subsidies included in the American Rescue Plan — securing affordable premiums for over 9 million Americans, delivering coverage to millions of uninsured & bringing us to near universal health coverage.
Today is a momentous day in the fight against the COVID pandemic, with the FDA’s first emergency use authorization of a coronavirus vaccine for children 5-11 years old.
Thanks to Democrats’ leadership with the #AmericanRescuePlan, and @POTUS forward-thinking actions last week, families in every community across the country will have free and convenient access to the vaccine for their children.
Getting our children vaccinated is the best way to ensure their health and safety, so they can go to school, spend time with their families and engage in our communities with the confidence of knowing they are protected from this vicious virus.
It was an honor to meet today with Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Draghi, a strong international leader in the fight against COVID, in confronting the climate crisis and in investing in inclusive growth.
As one of our closest NATO allies, Italy has been an invaluable security partner for the United States. I was glad to express to Prime Minister Draghi the gratitude of the Congress for the hospitality and partnership Italy extends to our military.
I commended Prime Minister Draghi for his economic leadership to promote inclusive economic growth. Crushing the virus and investing in the green economy is a key way to promote that growth. We must build a sustainable future for our children that does not leave anyone behind.
Today, Congressional Democrats are taking action in the Courts as we stand with the American people and the law in defense of this truth: every woman, everywhere, has the constitutional right to basic reproductive health care.
Mississippi’s draconian abortion ban – one in a heartbreaking and nationwide assault against women’s freedoms – is unconstitutional. As the brief makes clear, the constitutional right to an abortion has been resoundingly affirmed: in Roe v. Wade & in Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
Revisiting or undermining Roe presents a threat to equality and justice in America, as the Mississippi ban particularly targets women of color & women from low-income communities & would ‘perpetuate the structural racial and socioeconomic inequities that persist in our society.’
This week, the House of Representatives will pass legislation to fund the government through December of this year to avoid a needless government shutdown that would harm American families and our economic recovery before the September 30th deadline.
The legislation to avoid a government shutdown will also include a suspension of the debt limit through December 2022 to once again meet our obligations and protect the full faith and credit of the United States.
A suspension of the debt limit through 12/22 would provide an amount of time commensurate w/ the debt incurred as a result of passing last winter’s bipartisan $908B emergency COVID relief legislation, which was authored by GOP Senators & signed into law by the previous president.
