Matcha, or Japanese ceremonial green tea, is one of the world’s healthiest drinks. Not because of antioxidants but survival molecules that Camillia sinensis makes when grown in the shade. When we ingest them, they boost our survival enzymes to fight aging & disease 💪 1/7
We’ve named these special plant defense molecules “Xenohormetins” 🌱 Xeno for between species, hormesis for what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger 🏃‍♀️ cell.com/cell/fulltext/… 2/7
When we ingest xenohormetins, they turn up survival defense enzymes such as Sirt1 and AMPK, known targets of resveratrol and metformin derived from grape vines and French lilac, respectively 🍷 3/7
Matcha green tea drinking has many health benefits. For example it helps burn fat when you walk, protects kidneys from damage, improves memory, decreases inflammation and kills cancer cells. See my instagram for references 4/7
The molecule called epigallocatechin gallate (ECGC) is one of the most beneficial. The concentration of EGCG in matcha is 137 times greater than China Green Tips green tea & 3 times higher than the highest literature value for other green teas. 5/7
Matcha is now my hot drink of choice. I learned about the many health benefits of 🍵 from @LeCordonBleuInt-trained chef and nutritionist @chefserenapoon, who’s also educated me on the longevity and health benefits of a plant-based diet 🙏 6/7
@chefserenapoon says the healthiest matcha is made from organic ceremonial grade powder. Add to very warm (but not boiling water or you could destroy the molecules). Add stevia for sweetness if needed. Avoid honey and sucrose, which are often added at cafés by default 7/7 ✌️
Thanks for the great discussion and comments on matcha and molecules therein
1/4 teaspoon of olive oil + resveratrol worked well in whipped matcha tea 🍵 Added stevia 😋 Thanks @LaraPo8 for the suggestion 🙏

If you ingest antioxidants, consider this: Free radicals (ROS) activate immune cells that kill cancer. Explains the anti-tumor effect of METFORMIN, a type 2 diabetes drug that may also slow aging 💪 1/ eurekalert.org/multimedia/807… Image
MitoTEMPO, an antioxidant scavenger of mitochondrial superoxide, abolished the antitumor effect of METFORMIN in mice. Maybe regular anti-oxidants, such as vitamin C, prevent METFORMIN from inhibiting cancer... 2/
The MitoTEMPO data suggests METFORMIN's anti-cancer effect stems from mitochondrial ROS ->"mitohormesis"⚡️You can also induce mitohormesis via EXERCISE (⬇️O2) or hyperbaric O2 therapy (⬆️O2). Does HBOT slow cancer? Yep! This 2021 paper @SciReports nature.com/articles/s4159…🌪️ 3/

In 1963, when 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 thought free-radical damage to DNA caused aging, Smith et al. were studying wasp aging 🐝 Their unexpected results made them ask “if DNA mutation does not explain aging, what other mechanism could be involved?” Cue da epigenome… journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.108…

One-third of Americans don’t know they are suffering from sky-high uric acid levels, putting them at risk for many age-related diseases. New study 🐀 shows resveratrol pulls uric acid out of the bloodstream & reduces risk tinyurl.com/pux4w386
David Perlmutter will release a his book in Feb called Drop Acid. Was lucky to see an advanced copy…@DavidPerlmutter
You can lower uric acid levels by consuming tart cherries, vitamin C, quercetin, and drinking coffee, like I do

Resveratrol prevents calcification of arteries in rats & lowers zombie (senescent) cell markers via the longevity enzyme SIRT1👇Big effect #Wellbeing 1/4…
2/ Postmenopausal women are at risk of heart disease. These rats were made ‘post-menopausal’ by removing their ovaries. Reference:

3/ Sections through the aorta. Thinner is more useful. N = control, normal rat; O = removed the ovaries to simulate menopause; E = estradiol replacement therapy; R = resveratrol

Aging news: Abundance of a chemical called a DNA-methyl represents biological age🧬Using this clock, a 2-year study reports that switching to a low-sugar, Mediterranean-style diet with exclusive use of olive oil, slows aging 💪Details in thread tinyurl.com/4atd54s5
2/ The intervention diet included: (a) replacement of refined grains with whole grains; (b) at least one portion of raw vegetables & one of cooked vegetables each meal; (c) fish at least 2–3 times weekly...

In human clinical studies, pure Resveratrol 🍷 improves blood sugar levels, good cholesterol, blood pressure, kidney filtration & fatty liver, as we showed in mice. I’m gonna keep mixing it with yogurt/olive oil. Refs👇 lifespanbook.com, p.304
Resveratrol is a grey powder, not brown and it’s fat- not water-soluble. If it’s brown and you take it with water, not ideal
