Some people believe pneumonia is caused by cold weather, staying in an air-conditioned place, bathing cold water, etc.
But the truth is that pneumonia is usually caused by infection with bacteria, viruses or other microorganisms.
It can be difficult to know exactly what type of microorganism is responsible.
But experts can diagnose pneumonia based on the symptoms you have, physical examination, chest X-rays findings, blood tests, and culture of your sputum.
Pneumonia has different types of classifications. But a common one is based on what type of bug is causing pneumonia.
For example; bacterial pneumonia, viral pneumonia, and mycoplasma pneumonia.
Some things in your lifestyle and certain conditions can increase your chances of having pneumonia.
The best way to treat pneumonia is to know exactly what microorganism is causing it, then give the right antimicrobial medication at the right dose over the right duration.
It is not by drinking hot water, ginger tea and lemon, or taking OTC paracetamol and antimalarials.
If not treated or poorly treated, pneumonia can lead to serious problems.
It can cause;
- respiratory failure
- abscess in the lungs
- heart failure
- sepsis (spread of infection into there blood), or even
- death
You can prevent pneumonia by; 1. Avoiding smoking 2. Taking flu vaccine 3. Taking pneumococcal vaccine 4. Keeping good hygiene practices 5. Avoiding close contact with seriously sick people especially in the hospital setting
Before you take a painkiller, always ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice especially if you are;
1. 65+ 2. Pregnant 3. Asthmatic 3. Breastfeeding 5. Have allergies 6. Have peptic ulcer 7. Have upper tummy pain 8. Have any kidney problem

The reason is that there are some type of painkillers known as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, and others. These drugs are very common but can be super dangerous.
For example, NSAIDs can
- cause heartburn
- irritate your tummy
- cause severe aches
- make you feel like vomiting
- cause further kidney damage
- aggravate asthma symptoms
- cause severe bleeding from your gut

Dear public,
There's a resurgence of "ice water" in Abia and some other places due to the high prices of sachet water.
Below are some health effects of ice water and what you can do about them.
Retweet for public awareness
First, drinking excessively cold water can affect your gut and digestion. For e.g., it may contract your blood vessels, restrict digestion and interfere with the natural process of absorbing nutrients from the food you eat.
Next is the way it is packaged. It is highly unlikely that ice water, which is mostly wrapped in polythene sacks under unwholesome conditions, is either safe for drinking or free of germs.
