The magnificent sculpture of Shree Muralidhar at Hoysalesvara Temple, Halebidu, Karnataka.

Why is Bhagvan Krishna called Muralidhar or Murari. (Thread)
Lord Krishna is Either Called MuraliDhar or Murari. He is not called Murali alone because Murali means Flute.
⬇️ Image
MuraliDhar means “One who hold the a Flute”. Krishan is often called Muralidhar as he is often seen holding a flute or playing one. The Flute and The Peacock Feather are constant companion of Lord Krishna and so he is often identified with these Items like MulariDhara or

MorpankhDhari(One who wears a peacock Feather)

Sri Krishna is Also called Murari which is an amalgamation of two words, Mura and Ari.

Mura is the name of a Demon and Ari means Enemy. So, Murari mean ‘one who is the enemy of the Demon Mura’
⬇️
Mura was son of Rishi Kashyap. He received a boon from Brahma that whoever would be touched by the his hands would Die. After receiving this boon, he went on to challenge the Gods in individual, combat. Everybody knew of the boon he had received, and nobody was willing to

fight him. Thus he won the Swarg with out fighting single war.

In the mean time King Raghu of Raghuvansha, decided to perform a Yajna. Mura did not want this and wanted to destroy King Raghu, but Brahmarishi Vishwamitra intervened saying that, Raghu was not his equal,
⬇️
and that battles must be fought between equals. Rishi Vishwamitra Further advised Mura to challange Yama.

On hearing that Mura wanted to fight him, Yama fled to Vaikuntha and asked Lord Vishnu to Help him. Lord Vishnu said that he would fight Mura in place Of Yama. Yama then
⬇️
met Mura and said Sri Hari would Fight Mura in his stead asking Him to wait at the shore of the ocean called Kshiroda, where Sri hari would fight Him.

When Narayana and Mura met face o face, Mura started taunting him. In reply, Narayana said “If you are feeling so brave Mura,
⬇️
then why is your heart beating so fast”. On hearing this Mura, put his hand on his chest in order to refute Sri Hari’s claim. But the damage was done. He touched himself with is hand, and according to the boon from Brahma, anyone who was touched by Mura’s hand, irrespective of

who the person was would die.

Maa Dakshinesvari Kali Temple, West Bengal. On the eve of #Diwali & #KaliPuja
Thread
It is widely believed that in Bengal, noted 16th century Vedic/Tantric Sadhak Krishnananda Agamavagisha was the one who started Kali Puja. The tantric scholar had once dreamt of Maa Kali,
⬇️
who had until then largely been associated with death and darkness. However, the dark Devi instructed Agamavagisha to worship her in a form that highlighted her in a more motherly avatar. Thus, Agamavagisha is often attributed with popularising the worship of Kali in a milder

iconography a form that is still worshipped across Bengal to this date.
Basically Maa Kali is represented as a woman with dark skin, four hands and long flowing hair. The top left hand holds a kharga (sword), while the bottom left hand holds the head of a demon she has slayed.

Jaleswara Temple, Kalarahanga, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Built:- 12th century AD
According to the local hearsay, the temple was established by a Keshari ruler named Padma Keshar. According to the prevalent legend, the king of Chudangagada was an ardent devotee of Lord Lingaraja.
⬇️
Hence, he would visit Lord Lingaraja every day. Since it was very difficult to commute during the monsoon season, Lord Lingraja appeared in his dream and asked him to construct a temple in the center of the adjacent lotus pond. The King followed Lord’s instructions and built.

The Wheels of Konark Sun Temple, Odisha.
The most attractive architectural significance of Sun Temple, Konark is it looks like a moving Chariot that contains 24 wheels. Each of the 12 pairs of wheels has eight spokes with a central medallion and protruding central axle,
⬇️
often with an axle pin still depicted.
The medallions on the wheel spokes are carved with manifold deities, erotic and amorous figures in various poses.

Similar medallions occur on the face of most of the axles, with images such as Krishna playing on a flute amidst cowherds,
⬇️
people seeking mercy, and a king seated on an elephant facing a group etc.
The preservation of the intricate carvings on the temple platform and wheels is partly due to them having all been buried under sand brought in by the coastal winds over the centuries.
