#omegaLWJseason ...omega warprize LWJ is displayed at the wen indoctrination in front of the other sect disciples. WX tries to humiliate him by making him give WX a bondbite. LWJ lowers his eyes, leans forward, rests his teeth gently on WX's neck...

And he rips WX's throat out.

and, like. the scene before this happens is: WX's dropped by the indoctrination to show off his new warprize to his brother and the other sects - and it's LWJ, dressed in gauzy red robes with his hands and feet chained, standing docilely at WX's side and staring at nothing.

LWJ is completely unresponsive, even when WWX starts shouting and threatening to kill WX and WC. Even when WZL restrains WWX. Even when WX grabs LWJ by the hair and yanks his head back, setting his sword at LWJ's exposed throat. This last thing is what finally makes WWX stop.

WX smirks at WWX, who now has several swords + WZL's hand aimed at him. "You're so /defensive/ of him, Wei-gongzi," he says. "Is he yours?"

WWX looks like he very much wants to start shouting again. "Lan Zhan's not anyone's," he grits out. "What have you—why is he—"

his eyes go to LWJ, whose head is still tilted back by WX's hand in his hair. LWJ's staring up at the sky. He looks like he's detached himself completely.

What has WX /done/ to him, WWX thinks despairingly. LWJ is proud, stubborn, unflinching. What could make him act like this?

WWX wonders the worst. But he can see almost all of LWJ's body through the too-thin robes he's wearing, and there are no hand-shaped bruises, no bite marks.

LWJ's scent is carefully guarded, giving away none of his emotions, but he still smells like himself. WWX breathes in and lets the faint trace of LWJ's scent soothe him.

WX notices. "You're sure he's not yours?" he asks dismissively. "You're /smelling/ him."

Then, before WWX can answer, he uses the hand in LWJ's hair to tilt LWJ's head to the side. He shoves his nose behind LWJ's ear and inhales. LWJ doesn't even react.

"To be fair," WX says casually, like WWX isn't 2 seconds away from tearing him apart, "he /does/ smell delicious."

WX opens his mouth and, very lightly, rests his teeth against LWJ's neck. Presses down just hard enough for the skin to give.

"I could bite him," WX murmurs. "Claim him right here, in front of all of you. He wouldn't even resist - would you?" He directs this last part at LWJ.

LWJ stares at the horizon and says nothing. WX snickers.

"But I don't want you in my head all the time," he says off-handedly. "So I won't. But I have a better idea."

He grabs LWJ's chin and turns his face towards him. LWJ looks past WX's ear and doesn't react.

"I think," WX says conversationally, "you should bite me."

"You son of a /bitch/," WWX hisses. WZL places a hand on his chest.

WX taps his knuckle against LWJ's cheek. "You should probably just listen, you know," he says in LWJ's ear. "Or your friend there might lose his core."

finally, LWJ's first reaction: his eyes snap to where WWX is standing, WZL beside him. He lowers his gaze. Gives the tiniest, most imperceptible nod.

"Good," WX says, tilting his head back. He pushes LWJ's face down towards his neck. "Go ahead."

(i'm a bit rusty on my abo technicalities, like which way the bondbite runs. let's just say that LWJ biting WX will create a half-bond where LWJ feels WX's emotions, but not the other way around. without a full bond, the bondbite will eventually heal and leave no mark on WX.)

(also, please remember that WC is just there, fuming on the sidelines bc his brother's stolen a) the show and b) WC's fancy bodyguard. older siblings are the worst.)

LWJ leans down and closes his teeth over WX's scent gland. He hesitates.

"Lan Zhan, don't do it," WWX says desperately. "Don't, you'll have to taste him, you'll—"

"Hurry up," WX snaps. WZL moves his hand to WWX's throat. LWJ breathes in, breathes out, and bites down.

LWJ bites down much, MUCH harder than a bondbite requires. his teeth go straight through WX's muscle. WX screams and tries to rip LWJ off, but LWJ grabs his arms and pins him as his teeth meet in the middle of WX's neck.

WZL throws WWX aside and goes for LWJ.

now, at this point in time, LWJ would realistically die. or have his core melted. he is a) chained, b) weaponless and c) probably exhausted. but because this is an au and i do what i want, LWJ does not die, because he uses WX's twitching body as a human shield.

WZL's hand slams against WX's sternum, and WX gurgles as he chokes on his own blood. LWJ makes eye contact w WZL over WX's shoulder and spits out a chunk of WX's throat. WX dies a very painful death.

(WWX, watching: well mark me down as scared AND horny)

WC is screaming for the other wen guards to attack LWJ, but none of them want to get close to WZL. What if they get hit instead?

Does WC care? No, he does not. Does he grab multiple guards by their collars and shove them at LWJ, almost directly in WZL's path? Why, yes he does.

(realistically, LWJ would probably get stabbed. however this is minimal angst so no LWJ-stabbing here! 😤)

so a lot of the wen guards conveniently end up unconscious and coreless on the floor. which, hm! means that there are a lot of spiritual swords lying around unattended!

the other disciples see an opportunity. as more guards try to intervene between WZL and LWJ, less guards are left to supervise them. which makes it conveniently easy for JC and JZX to grab a spiritual sword from the floor and start a-stabbing 👀

WWX wishes he could join in, but alas, he is guarded by more people than anyone else. but then JC throws him a sword, and things go very badly for the wen from there.

WWX nearly kills WC, but WZL - who is now fighting both LWJ and JC - sees WC in danger and immediately abandons the fight. he whisks WC away to safety and raises the alarm. the guest disciples all look at each other and collectively decide they need to get tf out.

bells start ringing in the watchtowers - no doubt WRH will lock nightless city down. the guest disciples all grab swords from the fallen wen guards and get ready to fly.

except for LWJ. who is still chained.

his chains are thick. they'll take time to break - time that they don't have. LWJ can't ride a sword like this, so he'll have to ride with someone else.

there are a handful of other Lan disciples there, including su she, none of whom were chained up and treated the way LWJ was. they all glance at each other before one of them steps forward and tentatively says, "Lan-er-gongzi, you can ride with-"

He's cut off by a growl.

"He's riding with me," WWX snaps, stepping in between LWJ and the poor lan disciple with his teeth practically bared. "Back off."

Su She scoffs (from almost 20 paces away). "Since when do /you/ have anything to do with the lan sect?" he sniffs. "Was WX right? Is LWJ yours?"

WWX takes a step forward. "You-"

"Wei Ying," LWJ interrupts. WWX turns to look at him. It's the first time LWJ's spoken since he showed up. He sounds as coolly detached as he always does, even though he's wiping the last of WX's blood off his mouth as he speaks.

"We cannot waste time arguing," LWJ says, more to the lan disciples than to WWX. "I will ride with Wei Ying."

Something settles in WWX's chest when he hears that, like a restless itch finally being scratched. He still kind of wants to rip off SS's head, though. Weird.

LWJ gets on the sword in front of WWX, so that WWX can grab him if he falls. WWX hesitates before stepping on behind him. "Wait," he says suddenly. "Just - let me-"

WWX strips off his outer robe and tucks it around LWJ's shoulders, and has to resist the weird urge to purr.

It's just because he doesn't want LWJ to be cold in that silky excuse for a robe, he tells himself. Nothing to do with the strange satisfaction he feels at seeing LWJ wearing his colours, covered in his scent. Nothing at all. Don't be ridiculous.

they barely make it out, but they do make it. wen disciples chase them all the way to the qishan border, where they abruptly give up. it's suspicious, but WWX doesn't think abt it too much. he's got bigger priorities.

like, for example, LWJ. you know. just an example.

they've tried to break LWJ's chains, but the metal has been spiritually enforced, and their stolen swords aren't strong enough.

"We'll just have to wait until we get back to Lotus Pier," WWX says decisively. "Jiang-shushu can break it."

LWJ gives him an odd look. "Lotus Pier?"

WWX gives him an odd look right back. "Of course," he says. "What, did you really think I was going to let you fly all the way back to Gusu in chains?"

he doesn't admit the real reason he wants LWJ to come back with them: the thought of LWJ leaving, still in chains and without a sword, makes him feel jittery and anxious, like he could claw out of his skin.

he wants to bring LWJ to lotus pier, where it's /safe/. where they can finally break off LWJ's chains and get him to stop smelling like wen metal. where WWX will be able to confirm LWJ's safety with his own two eyes.

and, well. it's not like the Lans really have a home to go back to at the moment. the cloud recesses are long gone.

so the lans (and, most importantly, LWJ) agree to go back to lotus pier with the jiangs. for some reason, this doesn't alleviate WWX's restlessness one bit. in fact, it gets worse.

he starts getting twitchy and irritated when other people get too close to LWJ. he outright /growls/ when SS "accidentally" runs into LWJ and tears the sleeve of WWX's robe, which LWJ is still wearing. the other disciples, both lan and jiang, start giving LWJ a wide berth.

not that they didn't already give him a wide berth, bc LWJ is, well, LWJ. but now they see LWJ and they're like, "I do not see. I do not perceive. LWJ where? LWJ who?"

WWX is still acting like a territorial guard dog (ugh). he hates it, but he can't help it.

it's worse, he thinks, bc LWJ is so /quiet/. He doesn't even call WWX shameless anymore, just glares at him and stalks off. WWX is relieved that the docile LWJ they saw at nightless city was an act, but this LWJ, who says almost nothing and always seems coldly angry...

it scares WWX, a little bit. not LWJ, but whatever /happened/ to LWJ to make him like this.

when he finally works up the courage to ask, LWJ just sighs and reveals that, while he was insulted, jeered at, and paraded around in silks like an animal, he was never touched.

"It was a point of pride for WX," LWJ says. "He wanted to save me for the 'main event'."
He spits this last part out like it tastes rotten. It probably does.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the 'main event' was probably the indoctrination.

"I'll find his body and cut it into 1000 pieces," WWX swears, so angry he can barely see straight. "I'll crash his funeral if I have to. I'll-"

"Worry about yourself first," LWJ snaps, so harshly that WWX shuts up. "You're a target. WC will not forget what you did. All because-"

he cuts off and turns away, but that's enough for WWX to realise that, these last few days, LWJ has been /worried/. He's probably been beating himself up about his capture since the cloud recesses burned, and WWX getting himself involved didn't help.

WWX knocks his shoulder against LWJ's and ignores the pang in his chest when LWJ moves away.

"Don't overthink it," WWX says. "It's not your fault that WX's a dick. Or that I'm too reckless for my own good."

LWJ frowns. "Lotus Pier may be in danger," he argues. "The Wens will know that you're sheltering me. If I hadn't killed WX-"

"And you would've just let WX kill /you/ instead?" WWX shoots back. "Do you really think that would've been better?

The thought of LWJ giving in to WX makes WWX feel sick to his stomach. He shakes his head. "No, Lan Zhan. And besides, who's to say the Wens would've left the rest of us alone? You know me. I would've done something to make WC mad, and then the Wens would come after us anyway."

LWJ glares, but he doesn't seem to have a response. So they leave it at that.

About a week after they leave Qishan, they reach Lotus Pier.

LWJ and the lans are whisked off to guest rooms while JC and WWX go to tell JFM and YZY what happened. YZY realises that, since the wens can't attack gusu any more than they already have, they'll probably turn on lotus pier next. she starts making preparations for an attack.

by the time WWX gets out of his meeting with/scolding by YZY, he finds LWJ waiting outside the hall in clean jiang robes. he's carrying WWX's outer robe, which he shoves at WWX.

WWX blinks. "Ah, Lan Zhan," he says, "this smells like you now. You can keep it, if you want."

LWJ glares at him. "Shameless," he mutters, and storms off. WWX nearly cries from happiness. It's been so long since LWJ called him shameless! He was scared it'd never happen again!

(And if he secretly stashes the LWJ-scented robe in his closet, that's his own business.)

the next few weeks in LP are full of drills and prep for the inevitable wen attack. WWX is kept busy training the disciples and coming up w escape plans, but he still finds time to trail around LWJ like a very talkative bodyguard.

he'd expected the protectiveness to dial back once they were in lotus pier, but it hasn't. he's not growling at people anymore, but he sticks to LWJ's side like a burr. He kind of wants to just plop LWJ in a pile of soft blankets, away from everyone else, and bring him food.

He also kind of wants to wrap LWJ in his outer robe again, but that would be weird, so he doesn't.

Almost a month after WX's death, the Wens attack.

Lotus pier is ready for them. WC brings WZL and a fleet of ships, and the battle is bloody. But eventually, the wens retreat. The jiangs have suffered damage, but they manage to come out better off than the lan. At least, unlike cloud recesses, lotus pier is mostly unburnt.

WZL and WC are dead. WC was killed by JC and WWX, and WZL by YZY - though not before he managed to melt JFM's core. JFM will have to step down as sect leader, but at least he's alive.

After the attack on lotus pier, the sects finally rally together against the wen.

The war lags in the beginning. There are a few months of tension, where everyone's waiting for another attack. LWJ receives word that the lans are rebuilding, and that LXC is alive. He thanks the jiangs for their hospitality and leaves to go join LXC.

WWX has Feelings about it.

For the first time in his life, he wants nothing more than to leave lotus pier. He wants to follow LWJ to gusu and make sure nothing happens to him. He wants to make sure LWJ is /safe/.

He can't leave lotus pier, though. So he just has to watch as LWJ and the lans leave.

WWX gets real nasty to be around once LWJ leaves. He's constantly irritated, always pacing around, and he snaps at everyone and everything. He even snaps at JYL, which he immediately apologises for. He and JC get into more than a few spats abt his behaviour.

WWX can't explain it, but he feels like he's going insane. He's always restless and anxious about something he can't name. He feels like he's forgotten something important. Something vital. Something that he /needs/ to take care of.

He only realises what's happening when JC finally pulls him aside and asks him what the hell he thinks he's doing w LWJ.

"What does lan zhan have to do with anything?" WWX asks, genuinely confused. JC looks at him like he's stupid.

"Uh, /this?"/ JC gestures at WWX. "You've been pissy ever since he left, and you were all weird about him when he was here. What's up with you two? Is he your mate or something?"

JC's not serious abt the mate thing, ofc. But WWX's brain just goes *windows shutdown sound*

lan zhan? his mate? pssh, that's crazy. it's not like WWX wants to provide for him, or take care of him, or tenderly feed him strawberries in a gently rocking boat on a summer afternoon...

Oh, WWX thinks. Fuck.

What happens after WWX's realisation? I don't know. They're technically still at war. But maybe WWX writes a few letters to LXC, and maybe he goes to beg JFM and YZY to let him go to gusu, and maybe a "political" marriage is arranged between LWJ and WWX.

and maybe, when WWX sees LWJ again, he finally feels calm for the first time in weeks, and he ends up blurting out a very messy confession (that LWJ reciprocates). and then maybe LWJ and WWX are inseparable for the rest of the war, neither one going anywhere without the other.

and maybe, when the war ends, LWJ tracks down every wen disciple who whistled and leered whenever WX brought him into the room, and he kills them. he also inadvertently finds wen qing, the doctor who treated his broken leg in qishan.

WQ was probably the only ally LWJ had in qishan, bc whenever she treated his leg, she'd kick WX out of the room to let her be 'alone w her patient'. in reality, it was so LWJ could have a tiny fraction of the day where he was alone, without WX breathing down his neck.

so, when WQ tells LWJ abt the persecution of her family, he and WWX take them under their protection. with the public support of 2 war heroes, and a thorough inspection by the sect leaders, the wen remnants are eventually left alone to be farmers and doctors on a farm in yiling.

LWJ and WWX end up meeting and falling in love with wen yuan, the only child among the wen remnants. they adopt him w the wens' blessing and live very happily as a married and mated couple with their chubby-cheeked son, and regularly scandalise their friends & family w their PDA.

and that's the end! this was not supposed to get this long, but here we are. thank you so much to anyone who read through this whole thing, i really appreciate it ❤️❤️
