On this #Truthsgiving, I'm sharing resources that highlight #NativeAmerican & #Indigenous voices, lived experiences, knowledge systems, histories & futures. Here's a 🧵 of materials for you to share with your relatives today that resist colonial narratives of #Thanksgiving...
The "All My Relations" podcast (@NativeApprops, @matikawilbur) talks about Indigenous relationships "to land, our creatural relatives, & to one another" bit.ly/3l89v0m
The "This Land" podcast by @rebeccanagle is about the implications of Indigenous land rights & sovereignty in the present day bit.ly/30SH2V9
I love the "Telling Our Twisted Histories" podcast! @kaniehtiio talks about concepts, words, & stories that "have been twisted by centuries of colonization" bit.ly/3DPoynb
There's the new "Auntie Up" podcast (@AuntieUp1) that celebrates our Indigenous aunties and the "auntie worldview." Support our aunties! apple.co/30Rx0Ej
To stay up to date on Indigenous current affairs and events, follow @mediaINDIGENA and listen to their podcast apple.co/3COihXz
The "Cultural Humility" podcast released two episodes recently about Indigenizing mental health (bit.ly/3xs7lhi) and COVID-19 in Indian Country (bit.ly/3FJp7zl)
I highly recommend following IlluminNative (@_IllumiNatives) & their work on challenging negative & stereotypical representations of Native peoples illuminatives.org
If you haven't done so already, follow my digital storytelling project (@OrigiNatives_) with urban Native peoples & sign-up for our newsletter originatives.org
The "More Than a Word" film (@MTAWdocumentary) by John (@John_A_Little) & Ken Little documents Indigenous resistance to the Washington Football Team's racist mascot & imagery
"Natives in America" (@NativeInAmerica) is Megan Red Shirt-Shaw's (@mredshirtshaw) online literary publication showcasing prose & poetry by Native youth
NDN Collective (@ndncollective) is a non-profit "dedicated to building Indigenous power" & narrative change ndncollective.org
I encourage you to follow Brandi Morin's (@Songstress28) journalism & her recent 6-part series on Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls that's being released in Al Jazeera bit.ly/3nMYROs
You can learn more about grassroots efforts to end violence against Indigenous women from the National Indigenous Women's Resource Center (@niwrc) niwrc.org
There are so many books (fiction, non-fiction, poetry) by Native American & Indigenous peoples--beyond what I can list here. Check out "An Indigenous Peoples' History of the US" by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz (@rdunbaro) & "An Afro-Indigenous History of the US" by Kyle Mays (@mays_kyle)
For people who can access journal articles, "Decolonization is Not a Metaphor" by Eve Tuck (@tuckeve) & Wayne Yang is an absolute must.
Take the time to intentionally read about Indigenous resistance. Some of my favorites are "Mohawk Interruptus" by Audra Simpson & "As We Have Always Done" by Leanne Simpson
I'll continuously add to this 🧵, but remember that I'm one Native person from one tribe (Tuscarora), & there are thousands of Indigenous peoples in the world. Add to this list & grow it. We all have so much to learn.
