Talk form #IOCprev2021: Maximising availability 4 training matters ✅🏏

⬇️ Time lost by nat cricket team players (in training/clubs/National team) 2 injury & illness 😷🤕over 1yr PRIOR 2 World Cups has POSITIVE CORRELATION coeff 0.82, pvalue <0.05

👩‍🏫 Thread 1/.
2/ Method involved Int Cricket Consensus @DrJohnOrchard, @Craig_Ranson et al..2016 definition for determining match (MTL) and general time-lose (GTL). Tracked media sources, MTL fairly accurate determine MTL prevalence, as Orchard & J.Hayes 2002 found in NBA, BUT GTL was diff..
3/ BUT 4 GTL presents errors esp fringe players, eg. team not reporting of player with Flu's having modified training for few days with nil MTL. Used players SoMe posts 2 try improve accuracy. Media sources incl @ESPNcricinfo team sheets, nat cricket boards offical reports etc.
4/ Results:
LOWER MTL prevalence: over the 12 months leading up to a major international tournament had a statistically significant positive correlation with tournament final standings: Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ) = 0.82, p-value < 0.05 #IOCprev2021 #Cricket
🏏Lower GTL (better training availability) to final position ⚠️ however had a statistically insignificant correlation aka > 0.05 (altho near), owing to low sample size. coefficient = 0.7, p-value = 0.052.
🤔Most Interesting is how teams perform relative to their @ICC World Rankings, aka better team health allow team perform relative their norms? upsets? Final Position vs World Rank:

🏆 GTL (Better training availability): coeff (ρ) = 0.88, p-value <0.01 😍 #IOCprev2021
😇 Higher correlations, statistically sign for both MTL & GTL seen if looked at burdens of teams top 5 batsmen 🏏& top 5 bowlers 🥎 (ICC Ranking):

🏏MTL (ρ) = 0.81, p-value <0.05
🏏GTL (ρ) = 0.90, p <0.01
> allows consistency of teams playing group? #IOCprev2021
Some correlations (GTL 0.76, p-value < 0.05) also seen when all players selected national tours or centrally contracted (even if never played)

> Important for cricket boards to improve systems for domestic cricket, to maximise no. players available (fit) 4 national selection?
9/ Appears results of research #cricket regarding time lost to injury & illness influence (general time-lose) on major tournament performances, 'could be*' consistent with that seen within @ben_raysmith & @_mickdrew research in AIS / Aus Athletics.....
10/ These results in international #cricket appear of Injuries 📉= 🏆 consistent wth research in other sporting code, eg. ⚽@MHgglund @MarkusWalden 🇪🇺 & @criseirale 🇶🇦, & @DonnaLu19 @Alan_McCall_ et al, in Rugby 🏉 @statman_sean @drsimonkemp et al., in 🏈AFL @D_Hoffman93 et al..
11/ HOWEVER note: 1) this just explorative from JUST ONE tournament = results may be diff compared 2 other yrs, 2) even tho stat sign can be shown there is tho a low number of teams in international cricket & wth a low sample size = makes assumptions/lacks accuracy in analysis..
12/and 3/ the author may bias due to prior working in international cricket: thus poss having extra knowledge of players injuries beyond the methodology & deriving income source from one of the boards..... .
13/ The poster from #IOCprev2021 @IOCprevConf for this thread > National teams world tournament performance is positively influenced by lower injury burden in international cricket 🏏over the 1-year prior to tournament. @BJSM_BMJ 55. A106.1-A106: researchgate.net/publication/35…

Talk #2 #IOCprev2021 : when setting up Athlete Health sys 4 teams 1st need 2 know what is the problem, from @TheRealPCB injury surv🗣️:
🏏Yes ✅injury & illness profiles diff
⚠️rates: resp illness, spine, calf mm's
⚠️burdens: LL tendons, respiratory
⚠️high reoccurrence
thread 1/ Hayes, Shane & Perera, Nirmala. (2021). 273 Profile of injur
2/Reason: altho #cricket popular in South Asia there is lack of epidemiological research 2 provide a focus 4 optimal injury/illness manag & prev. Due 2 diff in socio-culture, diets, medical, workloads, play style, pitches, out-fields, dev/LTAD etc..cant assume same as West
3/ Injury surv over 365 days of all @TheRealPCB centrally contracted players + any players selected for #PakistanCricket camps/tours > contracts require reporting 2 PCB, but 2 ensure consistency also team physio phone/telehealth wth players + franchise/NCA/clubs regularly
