Use of such language has become a “tell” for journalists stuck in a Kenya after being expelled from Ethiopia.

This is not about you. It is not about your colleague @declanwalsh and it is not about some kind of pride driven righteous defence of your press freedom by looking for gotcha stories to try to prove things that you cannot prove because you are not there.
Your job is to report the facts as accurately as you can, and the reasons and political machinations as you understand them to be evolving, with a focus on accuracy and understanding and filtering what is relevant and important to your readers.
This story accomplished none of that, and it clearly has wasted a lot of your time.
