Yesterday, House Democrats honored our responsibility set out in the Constitution by our Founders: to ‘provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.’
The House, under the leadership of @RepAdamSmith, has passed a strong, bipartisan defense bill that will keep America safe, defend our servicemembers and their families and advance our nation’s leadership in the world.
For our military heroes, our legislation also provides our men and women in uniform with a well-deserved pay increase and supports their financial security and health with greater access to child care, education and housing.
This legislation, thanks to @RepSpeier, contains historic reforms to combat sexual assault in the military, including removing the Commander from key decisions related to sexual assault & related crimes & criminalizing sexual harassment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

I applaud President Biden’s strong leadership in announcing that there will be no official U.S. diplomatic presence at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
As I noted when I called for a diplomatic boycott last May, the last three decades of Beijing’s abusive and repressive actions show that the international community can no longer give Beijing a blank check and hope that its behavior will simply change.
While we must support and celebrate our athletes, America – and the world – cannot give our official imprimatur to these games or proceed as if there is nothing wrong with holding the Olympics in a country perpetrating genocide and mass human rights violations.

Today, our nation mourns the loss of a towering leader who embodied courage and excellence in public service. Senator Bob Dole was an extraordinary patriot, who devoted his entire life in service to the county he loved and to our cherished national values for which he fought.
With great valor & heroism, Senator Dole put his life on the line on the battlefield to defend our democracy. From the Well of the House to the Floor of the Senate, from presidential candidate to elder statesman, he served our county with great integrity & was a man of his word.
Senator Dole championed our men and women in uniform and the hidden heroes who care for them each day. He also never failed to raise his powerful voice on behalf of Americans living with disabilities and was an inspiration himself to millions.

As the Supreme Court hears arguments in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, it has the opportunity and responsibility to honor the Constitution, the law and this basic truth: every woman has the constitutional right to basic reproductive health care.
The House is committed to defending women’s health freedoms and to enshrining into law our House-passed Women’s Health Protection Act, led by @RepJudyChu, to protect reproductive health care for all women across America.
Mississippi’s radical abortion ban, part of a nationwide assault against women’s freedoms targeting in particular women of color and women from low-income communities, is brazenly unconstitutional and designed to destroy Roe v. Wade.

While Republicans greenlight this assault on the ballot for their own political gain, Democrats are fighting back.

The Affordable Care Act continues to deliver on Democrats’ promise that affordable health care is a right, not a privilege. Starting today, families will be able to enroll in affordable, accessible and life-saving coverage for the new year in the 2022 ACA Open Enrollment Period.
This year, @POTUS and @HouseDemocrats built on the success of the ACA with the American Rescue Plan. Nearly 3 million more Americans gained access to life-saving coverage, families are saving an average of over $800/yr and 4/5 families can access coverage for under $10 a month.
Now, Democrats are working to pass the #BuildBackBetter Act to extend enhanced subsidies included in the American Rescue Plan — securing affordable premiums for over 9 million Americans, delivering coverage to millions of uninsured & bringing us to near universal health coverage.
